Publisher's summary
Alfie is just an ordinary little boy - that is, until he bites into a ham and cheese sandwich with mustard so spicy that it turns him into a fire-breathing dragon!
Soon, he befriends another dragon named Marty, who shows him that dragons lead incredibly busy lives. For starters, they terrorize princesses, battle knights, and guard treasure, but did you know that they are also excellent pizza chefs? Or that they rescue rocket ships stranded in outer space? Or that they are responsible for every warm bath that's ever been taken before bedtime? And all they ask in return is a few fluffy marshmallows - for there's nothing in the whole wide world that a dragon loves better than marshmallows.
So, if you've ever wondered what a day in the life of a dragon is like, spend some time with Marty and Alfie and find out why a dragon's work is never done!

Story
Life in a small town can be pretty boring when everyone avoids you like the plague. But after their father unwittingly sends them to stay with an aunt who’s away on holiday, the Hardscrabble children take off on an adventure that begins in the seedy streets of London and ends in a peculiar sea village where legend has it a monstrous creature lives who is half boy and half animal.
In this wickedly dark, unusual, and compelling novel, Ellen Potter masterfully tells the tale of one deliciously strange family and a secret that changes everything.

Young wizards coming of age in a time of war... Will they be ready? Eynon was excited to leave his village and set off on his wander year. He’d turned sixteen today, and hoped for at least a few adventures. At high noon, he arrived a crossroads and saw a shimmer of silver in the mud. It was a thin and dirty oval, about the size of his palm. He washed it with squirts of water from his goatskin, then marveled at what was revealed.

Fine, but heard better
I may have purchased poorly here, but my 5 year old wasn't as engrossed with this book as she has been with others. The story is cute, but it is read without much to write home about in terms of performance. Sweet rather than a must-have,

Great for the Car!
I had bought this book downloadable to my kindle and read it to my six-year old daughter. She was thoroughly enchanted with the story, loved the adventure with the dragon. I thought this would be a good story for her to listen to in the car or at bedtime, and the audio book version is great! The author does a really nice job reading her book. My daughter asks for it every time we drive anywhere, and she's already looking forward to the next one in the Alfie Sandwich Series.

Very Entertaining!
I enjoyed the Kindle version of this book and I thought the audiobook would be great to have whenever I'm watching nieces or nephews, friends' kids, etc. I'm really happy with the audiobook version. The author does a great job reading her book--it's always cool when authors choose to read their own work and it comes out well. Basically, it's a 30 minute story that really stimulates a kid's imagination, and it's a whole lot better than TV!

Cute Story
This is a cute and imaginative story. Many children's books nowadays are very formulaic and predictable but this one is fresh and original. Great listen!
