Publisher's summary

The kids are the least of our worries.

Seriously. If that sounds blasphemous in a book for concerned parents and educators (and anyone, really, who worries about "kids these days"), then I am so glad you're here. If you have a kid, work with a kid, or love a kid, you will find something inspiring in this audiobook. Dare I say, game-changing.

These words were born from the hundreds of stories of kids, their families, and their support systems I was lucky to meet as I worked across Canada and the USA. Regardless of who I met or where I met them, the message was always the same: Our kids are okay only if those of us holding them are okay.

During the developmental years, schools and educators are the most significant connection point to almost every child on this continent. But are the educators okay? I believe that most of the great educators want to make a difference. Many tell me, however, that they are finding it more and more difficult these days to love what they do. I think it's time we did a better job of looking after them first. Plain and simple, this book is for the educators: our teachers, bus drivers, administrators, educational assistants, librarians, administrative assistants, and custodians. And anyone who leads, loves, and supports them.

Plus just for you, I recorded a little bonus chapter filled with thoughts and ideas about the future and our next steps in this journey to create a more connected world.

I am so grateful you are here to listen to these words.

Don’t even hesitate a second. Buy this book!

I am not a teacher. I am not working inside a classroom. I am however working with educators each and every day and I am also a parent. This book speaks to daily moments of interaction we have with children in our lives, the “why” of common behaviors and the vital importance of interaction, connection and intentional action. Thank you Jody!

AMAZING!!!!!!

This is the very first time I have ever written a review and I’ve read many a book. Professional, this book moved me to tears. As a parent, I was moved to tears. I had the privilege to watch Dr. Jody Carrington on the virtual GYTO conference and was hooked. She is real, funny, and speaks to your soul. (I want people like her as friends!!!) Thank you for reaffirming what many of us educators already know and opening our eyes to many things we may not have caught on to yet.

So much Value to my classroom!

Thank you so much Jodi! This book is one of the most amazing books i have come across! I am so grateful for this book! I have a child that I was not connecting with and this book really helped me understand him better. Ive been teaching for over 15 years and this was one of the most impactful things that I have done for myself and classroom. Thank you again. Sharing it to the world!

Best read (LISTEN) ever! Life changing!!

I don’t even know where to begin. Two weeks ago I was a burned out administrator, feeling anxious and sad about the upcoming school year. Fast forward to reading this book and I feel 110% refocused, refreshed, and revived as an educator. I will listen to (and read—I bought the print copy too) this book over and over again. It ties together all the truths I’ve been learning about (and defeated by) “these days.” Jody speaks to the real challenges we face and gives practical strategies, guidance, and ENCOURAGEMENT to know what to do next. Not only that, but I loved listening to Jody narrate this book—I laughed, I cried, I smiled and have already told a dozen people about this incredible audible. I love her swearing (as she legitimately brings attention to the key points) and has a way of just being REAL and raw… something else we all really need in this day and age!!! Buy this book—I promise it will be worth every single penny!!!

Great, but…

This book goes right along with my philosophy that, “Kids don’t care what you know till they know that you care.” I took away so much that I could use, but the swearing is not justified, no matter how Jody tried to justify it. We need to be an example of what we want to see in our students. The continual swearing was like receiving second hand smoke from a smoker. They both feel bad to me.

Omg!!

I listened to the book as the guidance counselors at my school read it. I kept saying to them, “She’s speaking to US!” I had listened to several
Chapters when my husband and I took a road trip . At 62 yrs old, he changed professions and Became a teacher. I told him to listen to this ! He did and he too became enthralled! It spoke to me about my spec. Ed middle schoolers as well as his high school
Babies . It helped us understand our 5 yr old grandson. Above all, it made us feel appreciated and gave us insight to keep helping our “kids.” I need to buy a printed copy so I can go back and
Highlight! Loved every word!!
