This story may seem cheery at first, when the Baudelaire orphans spend time in the company of some interesting reptiles and a giddy uncle. But don't be fooled.
The three siblings endure a car accident, a terrible odour, a deadly serpent, a long knife, a large brass reading lamp, and the reappearance of a person they'd hoped never to see again.
I have made a solemn vow to present this information to the public, but there is nothing stopping you from pretending you've never heard of the audiobook. Then you can buy something that is less unpleasant.
With all due respect,

"Dark stuff, even for these books"
I enjoyed this book a lot. It's not one of the best in the series but there is plenty here to entertain the most demanding child, parent or children's book loving adult. It starts off abit slowly, but the children's detective work towards the end makes for engaging listening.
Bewarned though, this is easily the darkest of the seven books I've listened to in the series. Whilst several of the books feature murder, this one sees the child characters threatened with a knife and living with mental cruelty and the threat of violence from someone in their home for most of the story. A little parental guidance might be a good idea if you plan to down load this for your kids.
"good story but the character voices are irritating"
I like the series but the voices in this reading got on my nerves. Such a shame.
