Publisher's summary

Invisible Target is a true, detailed account of one girl’s experience of educator sexual abuse at the hands of her middle school teacher. It follows her journey, beginning with her tumultuous childhood, meeting the teacher, and the grooming process he created to lure her into a false sense of trust and ultimate betrayal. After years of abuse and manipulation, she finally found the courage to bravely break away from her abuser.

With excerpts from newspaper articles and an actual court impact statement, this book gives you a clear picture of how the epidemic of educator sexual abuse begins, progresses, and affects so many innocent lives.

Invisible Target is more than a memoir. With thought-provoking questions at the close of each chapter, this book serves as a strong educational tool for students, parents, teachers, and administrators by shedding light on the dynamics of educator sexual abuse so that school can be a safe haven for every child.

The narration by Vanessa DeSilvo is flawless.

I read the printed version of Invisible Target and shared my review on Amazon about three years ago. You can read it below.

“Invisible Target is an intimate, bold and important story. Although I found portions of the book tough to experience as the reader, Andrea’s delivery of the material helped soften the impact while still remaining true to the important details needed to paint the complete picture of her experiences.

This book is more than just an account of one woman’s battle with educator sexual abuse; Invisible Target is a powerful resource that can help prevent sexual misconduct and abuse in schools. Andrea is a gifted writer that has created an amazing resource that should be read by anyone that wants to help keep children safe.”

I added the Audiobook version to my library and listed to it recently and wanted to add to my review. I still feel the same way about Andrea’s story as I did three years ago but enjoyed the Audio version more than the printed book.

If you’ve already read the book, I’d highly recommend listening to the audiobook.

The narration by Vanessa DeSilvo is flawless. It really felt like she truly understood the weight of the words on the page and delivered Andrea’s story perfectly. I’ll be looking for more Audiobooks from her in the future.

My mother's story, or as close as I will ever get.

There is an ever expanding ring of damage because of sexual abuse. My mother's gymnastics coach became my father. She can't tell me what happened, like the author's mother she liked to live in the superficial. I grieve her every day, I wonder what might have become for her if she had been able to continue her life without her father's drinking buddy. So many people need to read this book, please, take a look at a well told account from the inside of the experience.

I thank the author for the courage to share her account and would love to hear her speak live.

Healing

I was interested in this book at first because I am an educator and wanted to educate myself. Little did I know that this book would bring about amazing personal healing. With each chapter, I realized that I too was in a similar relationship (not with a teacher). A very controlling and manipulative relationship. This book made me understand that some of the things that were said to me in that relationship were words that promoted control and manipulation. I was able to reflect on my past and I am starting to understand a lot more about myself and decisions I have made because of that relationship. A great book!

Thank you Andrea for being courageous enough to share this story and in turn, helping so many with your words.
