Publisher's summary

Winner of the Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association Book Award, Indian Creek Chronicles is Pete Fromm's account of seven winter months spent alone in a tent in Idaho guarding salmon eggs and coming face to face with the blunt realities of life as a contemporary mountain man. A gripping story of adventure and a modern-day Walden, this contemporary classic established Fromm as one of the West's premier voices.

A Book about putting yourself out there....

This book was an entertaining read. I wish I had the guts to “put myself out there.” I enjoyed the book very much.

A very humble, but beautiful “On Walden Pond”

This was an absolute joy to listen to on Audible. Like taking a vacation in my mind. This college student, with almost NO self-awareness, blunders into an unlikely adventure in the wilderness. He determines to make the most of it, and becomes a man in the process. Outstanding writing!

A good adventure

I liked the story very much. A nice mix of humor and adventure. The young spirit of a young man in the adventure of a lifetime that is at the beginning of his lifetime really.

Good story that keeps a nice pace

I was interested in the story, and listened as I drove up the Clear Water river to Missoula. I was not too stoked on the ending but very relevant and telling.

Is the wilderness and the vastness only in our minds?

What a thrilling, terrifying, exhilarating look at how loneliness becomes aloneness, finally becoming aliveness. Highly recommended for armchair adventurers.

Good story but lots of holes

As a hunter and a Montanan, I felt this was a bit of fiction, as opposed to a real mountain-man story. On the whole I enjoyed the tale. But this was not a dog-lover ( the whole dog element seemed tacked on), the idea of a game warden allowing unlawful hunting and not issuing a license on the spot unrealistic, and the bobcat story was illogical. It didn’t ring true to me.
