Publisher's summary

Two women. All alone. With no provisions. Can they find hope in a foreign land?

Ruth leaves her home with a barren womb and an empty future after losing her husband. She forsakes her abusive parents and follows the woman she has grown to love as a true parent, her late husband's mother, Naomi.

Ruth arrives in Israel with nothing to recommend her but Naomi's love. She is destitute, grief-stricken, and unwanted by the people of God. But God has great plans for her. While everyone considers Ruth an unworthy outsider, she is shocked to find the owner of the field—one of the wealthiest and most honored men of Judah—is showing her favor.

Long since a widower and determined to stay that way, Boaz finds himself irresistibly drawn to the foreign woman with the dark, haunted eyes. He tells himself he is only being kind to his cousin Naomi's chosen daughter when he goes out of his way to protect her from harm, but his heart knows better.

Obstacles. Heartache. Withered dreams. How can God forge love, passion, and new hope between two such different people?

In the Field of Grace

This was a decent book. I did not enjoy it as I had with several other books written by Ms. Afshar.
The beginning was depressing, sad then it began to pick up. Parts of the book were too long and drawn out but overall, the last 5-6 chapters were better.
I love the book of Ruth, yet spending time at the end of the book offering thoughts (i.e. Salmon and Rahab were Boaz’ parent, etc.) caused the book to lose potency. Some things need no explanation or interpretation.
What the Lord has allowed to be in the Bible is in the Bible - it cannot be taken out no matter who has an issue with it. The lineage of Jesus Christ is filled with all kinds of people-relations. But, they are GOD’s people and it is His process. No one can change it.

I really enjoyed the romance and humor. The setting of the story made me feel like I was actually there.

Beautiful Story of Ruth

Tessa has a beautiful way with words and making Bible stories come to life. It’s a book that was hard to put down. Ruth is one of my favorite books in the Bible.

Grief redeemed

I loved that the theme of this book is that grief can either drive us to bitterness or deeper walks with God. The subtle references to details from her other books were fun touches. Performance was well done.

A Bit Disappointed

I’ve read/listened to several books by Tessa Afshar, and this is my least favorite so far. The story line wasn’t as strong and engaging as her other books. I was excited to read/listen as this is a favorite Bible story, but I found myself wondering how much longer this story was going to last. Honestly, the part where Ruth is in “the garden” was very weird and random feeling within this story. The description of Jesus in a white robe with a gold sash was a bit cliche and also seemed very random in this story.
I was not impressed with the narrator. Her voice was ok, but I didn’t feel she was a good fit for this story. Her ‘voices’ didn’t vary greatly and didn’t fit the characters in my opinion.
