Publisher's summary

Two friends on opposite sides of the aisle provide a practical guide to grace-filled political conversation while challenging listeners to put relationship before policy and understanding before argument.

More than ever, politics seems driven by conflict and anger. People sitting together in pews every Sunday have started to feel like strangers, loved ones at the dinner table like enemies. Sarah Stewart Holland and Beth Silvers say there is a better way.

As working moms on opposite ends of the political spectrum and hosts of a fast-growing politics podcast, Holland and Silvers have learned how to practice engaging conversation while disagreeing. In I Think You're Wrong (But I'm Listening), they share principles on how to give grace and be vulnerable when discussing issues that affect families, churches, the country, and the world. They provide practical tools to move past frustration and into productive dialogue, emphasizing that faith should inform the way people engage more than it does the outcome of that engagement.

This urgently needed new audiobook reveals how to talk about politics in a way that inspires rather than angers and that pays spiritual dividends far past election day.

One of the most powerful books on communication

I have been a huge fan of Beth and Sarah since discovering their podcast last year. This is a book that I have now purchased in every format possible for myself as well as countless physical copies for friends and lawmakers. It's that important.

This book gives amazing advice on how to have hard conversations. Not just political conversations, but ALL hard conversations, it's just framed as how to have hard political conversations. The narration is gentle, and it is obvious that both women have a great deal of experience in speaking on microphone. The content is coherent, and builds on each previous chapter while giving real world tools for implementation. Honestly I've re-read (listened) to this book a half dozen times already and I am sure to revisit it repeatedly over the rest of my life.

Thank you SO much Beth and Sarah for everything you have put out into the universe. The world is better for having you in the conversation.

Helpful book for today’s times

This book is essential reading/listening for anyone who is interested in moving beyond today’s toxic political discourse and into a more productive, human-centered conversation. Beth and Sarah wonderfully walk the reader through action-based steps on expanding one’s world view, listening first, and having more productive conversations. I highly recommend this book for those readers of faith and those who do not have a faith background.

Should be required reading!!!

I picked up this book as part of a 2-for-1 sale not sure what to expect but excited to hear how two
women were exploring political conversations without criticism.. All I can say is THANK GOD they wrote this! My family is divided politically (and my in laws as well) and my husband and I play the middle/ practical referees asking love ones if they’ve read the opposing views or stopped to consider the alternatives. This book is not about agreeing with the points discussed in here - it’s about graciously listening and taking into account other people’s opinions.

I’ve already recommended this book to several people (even before o finished it) and plan to recommend it to many more.

Thank you thank you thank you for your thoughtful, graceful discussions and I look forward to remaining part of the conversation going forward.

Nuance and grace - what the doctor ordered

I’m an avid Pantsuit Politics listener and was curious about Sarah and Beth’s book. It was amazing! It was just like their show primers but instead of 5, if was like 5,000 things you need to know about being a decent human. Looking forward to their next book.

A Must Read to Level Understanding

I wondered at first if this book was 10 years too late. As I moved through each chapter, I acquired tools that were helpful and transformative in trying to have civil, grace-filled political discussions.

Is relevant for sane people

who start from the same fax and have the same goal in mind but don’t agree on how to get there . The decide in this country is much we have many who don’t or won’t agree on basic facts - and also many who do not have the same goal :/ this is the divide that is going to kill our democracy :(

Great for All Political Sides

Presents an approach to talking about our country, our values, and political positions that will help you avoid loud, name-calling conflict with those who perhaps do not share your espoused party affiliation. Gives individuals permission to shed the typical party-defined stance and find ways in which we can agree or disagree using rational, thoughtful conversation.
