Publisher's summary

Born and raised as an assassin in the notorious Hunter program, Breed vampire Cain has since put his skills to use as a mercenary willing to clean up any problem for a price. Or so he thought. After a job in Las Vegas strains even his dubious code of honor, Cain pulls up stakes and lands in Miami for a much-needed break. All he wants is time away to clear his head and regroup, but then a beautiful young woman is nearly killed in front of his eyes and the ruthless former Hunter becomes the only thing standing between her and a sniper's bullet.

Marina Moretskova is no stranger to dangerous men. As the niece of a Russian organized crime boss, she's grown up around killers and criminals. But her uncle wants out now, and he's enlisted Marina's help in buying his freedom by delivering valuable intel to a secret contact in exchange for protection. Not even Marina's bodyguards are aware of her mission, so when an attempt on her life is averted by a handsome, steely-eyed vampire, as grateful as she is for Cain's intervention, the last thing she needs is the shrewd Breed male nosing around for answers. Cain's cold, haunted gaze and merciless abilities attest to his brutal nature, yet the rough, solitary Hunter stirs a powerful longing in Marina that she can neither afford nor resist....

Another great Breed book

This was my first try at an audiobook and I am not sure I like the format or not. Have to mule over it for a few days I think. I’m a visual learner so not being able to see the words or imagine the story as I read it was a bit hard. But the story itself was good. Always enjoy a good Breed novel and the new spin off series is great and opens up some fresh story lines. This was the second book in the series and the characters were good. He was definitely a rough dude; coarse, abrupt, and cold most of the time. She was an interesting character though the reader was a male who tried to give her a Russian accent and that kept throwing me off. Him softening his voice anytime she spoke, I think, was one of the negatives of an audio book. The plot was good. The conflict interesting and kept me listening hour after hour. The book was like 6 hours long and I sat through the whole thing, start to finish. Overall, story was great. Mixed feelings on the format.

Good Story

This was a good story but the narrator was terrible for women. Use dual narrators in the future. The narrator was excellent for men only! Also more interaction with those in the Haven. The story could have been a little longer.

PREDICTABLE STORYLINE!!

Cain Hunter is one of Dragos "Hunter Vampires". Dragos stole and abused Breedmates and had them become pregnant with a Original Pure Vampire. The children of and Pure 100% Original Vampire would become Gen One vampires. Dragos had created his own army Hunter Gen Ones. Until the Order killed him and set the 100% Pure Vampire free.

Cain"s talent is precognition. He is standing on his balcony at a Miami hotel when he sees vision of the women in the pool being shot in the head and dying. Cain jumps into action and saves her just in the nick of time.

Marina Moretskova is in Miami to barter a deal with a Mafia Crime Lord for her uncle Anatoly Moretskova a Russian Mafia Crime Lord. Someone is trying to kill her before she can get the information she carries to her contact. Marina believes the information and money she carries is to get her and her uncle free from under the Russian Mafia.

After a second attempt in one night to kill Marina Cain takes her to his brothers Darkhaven. They start to have feelings for one another. This leads them to a hot sexy sensuous love making. Cain and Marina have lots of sex.

The story has a few surprises that you will figure out before they happen. You will suspect who is sending the assassin and how Marina is begin duped.

I wish the author had ended with another couple Lana and Bram having there baby. Lana was in her last weeks of pregnancy. I also, would have liked Bram, Logan, Knox and Raze to have been incorporated more into the storyline. They had no real meaning to the story. If you are not going to follow through with characters storyline. I feel like you shouldn't write them in the story.

Dark And Wild Ride

Action-packed ride. Dark and Broody Cain meets his match in mouthy but sweet Marina. This book will keep you reading wanting to find out what happens next. Roger Wayne gives a great performance.

Slightly better than the first.

This story was just a hair better than the first in the continuing series of "The Breed". I did enjoy the listen and the narrator helped with that fact. The members of the Breed Hunters are just a little scarier than their predecessors, but it's nice to see them getting their HEA.

A bit of a disappointment ☹️

I suspected that this wouldn’t be one of Lara Adrian’s better novels, just be the short length. However, I did have High hopes. It was actually the most disappointing book of hers in which I have ever read or listened. The relationship wasn’t very intense and the plot was totally predictable. I’ve actually enjoyed novellas, from the original series, more. More interaction with the other inhabitants at the Dark Haven could have helped. In addition, I really don’t like the narrator for this spinoff series; particularly his female voices. Perhaps dual narration would improve the production.
I’m hoping this is just a fluke and the future books are better. I will be so disappointed, if they aren’t. The Midnight Breed series has been one of my all time favorite series and I don’t ever want that to change.
