Publisher's summary

The House on the Borderland is a supernatural horror novel written by British writer William Hope Hodgson in 1908. The story opens with the discovery of a journal in the ruins of an unusual house in rural Ireland. Penned by a recluse, the journal details the man's stay at the house and his supernatural experiences with menacing monsters and dreaded dimensions.

American writer H. P. Lovecraft and British writer Terry Pratchett cited the novel as a major influence on their works, and it is generally considered to be the milestone that signaled the end of the typical Gothic fiction of the late 19th century.

Way ahead of it's time

This is one of my all time favorites, read by my favorite reader. The story itself is bizarre and really takes you to the strange places it ends up. Ian Gordon tells the story wonderfully, definitely check it out if you're a fan of lovecraftian stories, especially since Hodgson was one of Lovecraft's inspirations.

Great narration

This is an old book, so don't expect it to be fast pacing and to the point like today's stuff. It has the feeling almost like playing a game of Doom, but like 50 years ago. I enjoy it for what it is, but what really makes it work is the fact that some people took the time to narrate it correctly. The only reason I know about this book is because of the song "William," by the band Into Another. Check it out.

Wow, can’t believe this work predates Lovecraft and the Mythos.

It’s clear that Lovecraft and others were inspired by William, this story feels so lovecraftian, yet it predates the Mythos by over a decade!!
This is a must read/listen for anyone interested in horror!

Another excellent narration by HorrorBabble!

Another excellent narration by HorrorBabble! One of the things I appreciate about HorrorBabble is that you're not just listening to someone read a story, you are listening to someone tell a story and there's a big difference. I've heard many otherwise good stories ruined by a poor narrator. I've yet to hear a poor reading with HorrorBabble. You can tell he's familiar with the story, and he pauses or emphasizes or gets excited when appropriate. Altogether it's a really pleasurable experience.

One of my favorite ways to enjoy some of these readings is by following along with a physical copy of the stories.

Fantastic voice , and fantastic stories

It took me a while because i was listening to the other audiobook from H.B. Catalogue.
I am a big fan of Ian and his work. Once I listened to his narration it’s extremely difficult for me to tolerate other narrators of the same stories.
In addition if you are not ready to commit yet , check out some of his stories on YouTube and then come here for exclusives and better audio quality.

Spooky

Horrorbable is great all the time but what I especially love about them is their curation of great old spooky and macabre stories. This one certainly qualifies. Pretty sure the original D&D orcs were inspired by the creatures in this book.
