Publisher's summary

Only 27 years old, Horatio Hornblower has distinguished himself as a capable and intrepid officer in the Royal Navy. On a reconnaissance mission with the Hotspur, a three-masted frigate under his command, Hornblower and his crew narrowly avoid capture by their French adversaries, but the danger is not over. In the meantime, misgivings about his recent marriage also weigh heavily on the young officer's mind.

In this 10th novel of the Hornblower series, C.S. Forester depicts another rousing adventure set during the Napoleonic wars.

Love this series

Can’t wait to start the next book, and the narrator does an excellent job with the various voices too.

Great Story

One of the better books in the series. But I sped it up to 1.2x because it was read so slowly

Wonderful!!

I love listening to and reading CS forester’s Hornblower novels.
Has a wooden boat salon takes me back to a wonderful time. His attention to detail and historical facts is Valon companion.

Great audio when sped up a little

Adjust to what you want but if sped up to 1.2 or so, it is great.

another excellent Hornblower book but you need...

This is an excellent read however the very talented dramatic narrator is painfully slow. Listen to it on 120% speed

This book starts to show some of Hornblower's very true human flaws.

Adjust narration and this is a good purchase.

This narration is painfully slooowwww and draraaaawwwwn out. Nothing against the narrator, he is obviously a talented actor, I just personally struggled with the performance style. However, if you adjust the speed to 1.4, it becomes perfectly tolerable. This purchase is totally worth it for the fantastic story continuation of this epic character. Make the speed adjustment and then sit back and enjoy another fantastic adventure of Horatio Hornblower!

Very much dislike the narration

Great story terrible narrator. It was ponderous and lugubrious and difficult to get through. Though I won't not recommend it I will warn anyone who likes the Hornblower series to brace yourself for crummy narration.

Club always a great adventure, poor production

I enjoy the series of books, but this reader doesn’t seem to have another enough energy in his reading. I’ve had to turn up my device to level 10 to hear most of it. I think the story is a five the reader is a three and the performance is a two I think the recording studio didn’t do a good job of leveling volume, and there wasn’t anyone directing this reader to help him read this better Like the story, didn’t like the production of it Always a great adventure story with Horatio Hornblower, but the production of this audiobook could’ve been better Good book bad production,

Great story, poor narration.

I love the Hornblower series, but this narrator really detracts from the story. He begins a sentence in a strong voice but trails off to a whisper. It’s like he’s reading to himself.
This version should be in the discount bin.
