Publisher's summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

The audiobook of Hogfather is narrated by the BAFTA award-winning actor Sian Clifford (Fleabag, Vanity Fair, Quiz). BAFTA and Golden Globe award-winning actor Bill Nighy (Love Actually; Pirates of the Caribbean; Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows) reads the footnotes, and Peter Serafinowicz (Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace; Shaun of the Dead) stars as the voice of Death. Featuring a new theme tune composed by James Hannigan.

'Humans need fantasy to be human. To be the place where the falling angel meets the rising ape.'

'Twas the night before Hogswatch and all through the house…something was missing.

Superstition makes things work in the Discworld and undermining it can have consequences. When Death realizes that belief in the Hogfather is dangerously low, he decides to take on the job. But it's just not right to find a seven-foot skeleton creeping down your chimney and trying to say 'ho, ho, ho'.

It's the last night of the year, the time is turning, and if Susan, gothic governess and Death's granddaughter, doesn't sort everything out by morning, there won't be a morning. Ever again…

Hogfather is the fourth book in the Death series, but you can listen to the Discworld novels in any order.

The first book in the Discworld series – The Colour of Magic – was published in 1983. Some elements of the Discworld universe may reflect this.

Fantastic adaptation

I love The Hogfather; it’s my favorite Discworld novel and I’ve read it several times. This was a great adaptation! The main narrator was very good; she had a lot of variation for the different characters which is impressive considering how many character there are. Bill Nighy’s annotations were well done too and Peter Serafinowitz’s Death was appropriately deep and warm. It’s a wonderful listen for Christmas, so I’ll happily listen to it each year.

wonderfully done!

perfect narrators for this book! I got audible for the Terry Pratchett books and was heartbroken when they were taken off for audio quality issues. Pratchett audio books are difficult and expensive to get here in the states and when I saw Hogfather was redone I jumped for joy. Susan's voice was perfect and thank you for keeping Ridcully larger than life and Death his deep baritone.
"old gods do new jobs.if the Hogfather dies the sun will not rise. A ball of flaming gas will illuminate the land, but The Sun will not rise." there's a fine distinction here. Belief has power, wether it's making the anthropomorphic personification of the Tooth fairy,Death, or the Oh God of Hangovers. thank you Penguin books for this. if you get the chance,Jingo is another favorite 😉

Absolutely amazing

This is a grate work by Sir Terry prachat. incredibly smart, funny and thought provoking. I laughed out loud so much, just me, alone in my car.. The narration is really exceptional. both the main narrator and DEATH narattor did a brilliant job in bringing the story and characters to life. the only thing I was a bit disappointed of is the footnotes narration by Bill Nighy. first of all volume wise there was a gap and every time he spoke I could hardly hear anything he was saying. but beyond that, he just sounded so jaded like he didn't care about the story or the jokes. It was flat and lost a lot of the charm of the footnotes. however everything else was just so good it made up for it. I would love to buy every audiobook by this production.

Amazing

Terry Pratchett is one of my favorite authors ever. I am so sorry he is gone! I re-read and listen to his books over and over - and I was beyond thrilled to see a new recording of one of his books. Death and Susan Sto Helit are a couple of my favorite (sorry, I use this word a lot when talking of Terry Pratchett!) and the voices they are given in this reading are absolutely superlative!! Sian Clifford is a wonder - she does male and female voices with skill and style . I am not sure which of the gentlemen voice Death, but he is equally perfect. The “footnotes “ voice is ALSO just wonderful. If you like Terry Pratchett, give yourself the gift of this listen!!

An absurdist, hilarious Christmas fantasy

This is my second Terry Pratchett and I was again wildly entertained. Death as Substitute Santa? Check. An assassin after Santa? A lot of people pulled into the whirlwind? Check.

My Christmas Carol

Every year I treat myself to a reread of this holiday classic.
This year I gave it a new listen through the revision of the Pratchett audio-catalogue. The new voices were a bit jarring at first, but eventually grew on me.

Great book but performance not great

One of my favorite discworld books but it is hard to listen to due to the narrator. Most of the time she is fine but the nasally voice she uses for Albert and the Dean is really bad.
