Gem from history

I waited a long time before watching the series Pacific. By that time I had listened to many of the books the story was assembled from. After watching I looked for more and this book while short was a great addition to the saga.

A very well told story, but a guy whose “been there, done that.“. I wish I found this book sooner.

Very good book!

This book had a very familiar tone to it as if you've already read "With the Old Breed" by Eugene Sledge, which is perhaps the single greatest piece of American literature about WW II ever written. These two fine Americans had the wherewithal and courage to record for all posterity of the terrible goings on during the brutal combat they saw in the Pacific. This book, while was Sid's story and not Eugene's, was as fascinating and enthralling to read as "Old Breed" was. I highly recommend. Rest in peace gentleman and thank you for your service and your writings.

The perspective

Love this book! Love how he brought a different perspective to many things besides the war. Really loved the last chapter!

Fun and uplifting!

Such a fun and uplifting point of view in the midst of darkness and pain. Really enjoyed the book. More accurately, I really enjoyed the author and the glimpses you get to see of his personality through this book.

Emotionally Uplifting

So delightful! I am tempted to start listening all over again. The final chapter should be etched in granite.

Great book a out WW2

Sid was a friend of Eugene Sledge who also wrote a famous book. They were on different campaigns but both great writers.

You'll Be Sor-ee

A tipical story of the Korean War, but I would still recommend it to others.
