Christopher Lee's history of Britain provides the definitive radio account of the events and personalities that have shaped our nation. From foreign invasions and war to economic crises and social revolution, this is a compelling journey through centuries of dramatic change.
Volume 5, covering the years 1660 to 1702, is about great change: the restoration of the monarchy, the Great Plague and the Great Fire in the nation's capital, and, following the immense unpopularity of James II's Catholicism, a ruler from a different country on the throne, William of Orange.
Don't miss out on the rest of the Sceptred Isle series.

"Wonderful....This Sceptred Isle has provided one of the greatest treats for listeners in recent years." (Sunday Times)
One of these contains a glitch, where some of the chapters appear out of sequence. It's confusing when it happens, because the story suddenly jumps forward a few decades. Then, about an hour later, it jumps back to get the missing chapters. The first time I listened to it, I actually didn't catch what had happened. I was just left with a feeling of having been very confused about that period of time. I am not positive that it was in Volume 5 that it happened, but it seems like it was right around this point in the story.
Don't let that dissuade you from buying this book, because the story truly is brilliant. Just be alert when it happens, and jump around as necessary so that you are listening to the chapters in chronological sequence.
"The Stuart era."
I've started to find that we are being given more facts, but the book is still easy to take on board, understand and enjoy. CL has a good strong writing style and AM is able to injection a sense of listening to several people reading, without changing her narrative style. Still a good and informative series that has something for everyone.
