    "Wow! I learned so much."

It took me a little while to get use to the narrator, but after I did, I couldn't get enough. I have always be amazed at how much our modern world is still so influenced by Ancient Mythology. It is everywhere. I enjoyed this book very much.

    "Some good some god awful"

The 'good' is the material. All three stars are for the book. The author has made the information interesting and precise. The 'god awful' is the narrator. Alec Sand is deadly dull. Little or no inflection in his reading at all. He has a long list of audio books to his credit which I find amazing. I'll definitely avoid anything of his in the future. This is one where I recommend you read the book. Stay away from the audio.

    "This Beats Ambien!"

The content is very insightful and I could have learned a lot, but the HORRIBLE narration made listening to this for more than 5 minutes absolutely painful. If you need something to put you to sleep then you've found it!

"I can't get past the narrator!"

I was sincerely interested in listening to this book and collection of stories. However, I tried, and tried but to no avail. I do not know what they were thinking when they allowed Alec Sand (someone I had never known till I looked at who narrated this book until after I could not listen to it) to narrate it. Aren't these people screened before they are allowed to read! Oh my goodness, I could not get any part of the story because his words were so choppy and I was so agitated, irritated and frustrated. Biggest waste of money, and please, do not let that man narrate another thing or teach him how read to a crowd, or let him read to himself.

    "Passionless"

Narrator reads text with as much passion as if he were reading directions on how one should fill out a tax form. Most information is delivered as a series of facts with very little "story" to make it interesting. Painful!

    "An excellent overview of Mythology!"
What made the experience of listening to The Mythology of Ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, Greece and Rome the most enjoyable?

It has an incredible range of characters spanning all of the primary areas of popular mythology.

What about Alec Sand’s performance did you like?

He had an interesting speech pattern that took a little getting used to but overall was not disruptive to the presentation.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I particularly enjoyed how the author connected the characters in this book back to other classic works like The Bible, The Iliad, and The Odyssey.

"Interesting facts - NEVER let "professors" read It"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would not recommend this reading.

What was most disappointing about Charles Pricheta’s story?

He can't put together a sentence without great jerky surges of words interspersed with pauses which are irritating to the max.

How could the performance have been better?

    Get a better reader

    Any additional comments?

I have tried many time to get through this book but have yet to be able to do so because he is such an irritating person to have to listen to.

"Sloppy Work by Narrator Ruins Book"
Would you try another book from Charles Pricheta and/or Alec Sand?

Yes, but not from Alec Sand.

Would you recommend The Mythology of Ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, Greece and Rome to your friends? Why or why not?

No. Mr Sand didn't even try to find pronunciations of many of the gods and rulers discussed in the book. I finally couldn't listen because it was so irritating and in some instances impossible to understand.

How could the performance have been better?

Get a new narrator who is conscientious about the work.

Could you see The Mythology of Ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, Greece and Rome being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

No. Not that kind of book.

    Any additional comments?

While it may be true that the difficult Greek, Mesopotamian, Egyptian and even Roman names have varying pronunciations depending on what English pattern one follows, there are agreed upon ways of voicing the difficult to translate names.

    Any additional comments?

Alec Sand performed 2 of the books I have from early when I joined Audible (and before I knew of the return policy). I have yet to be able to finish either one. His reading is uninspired -reminds me of someone try to drill facts into his own brain by reading flash cards -loud to keep awake- the night before the big final. I keep hoping to find that these books have been read again by someone else because the content that I have listened to seems very good. Performance rating really should not receive any star.

There are parts that would repeat what was said 30 seconds to a minute prior. The book does a good job telling the many different versions of the same story which I did enjoy but got a little confusing.

What did you like best about The Mythology of Ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, Greece and Rome? What did you like least?

If you get on with random pauses, crammingofsentances, and stopping. In the middle of sentences. WithUTTERLYarbitraryBURSTS of emphasis IN THEwrong. Place. Theyyouwillenjoy this BOOK.

Otherwise, I'd give it a miss. I'm 3 hours in, it is very interesting and well researched but I can't stand the narrator for a moment longer. If you're looking for an in depth introduction for world mythology, search for "Don't know much about mythology" instead. It has much the same content and is very well read.
