"An Enjoyable Introduction to Alexander the Great"

This was an enjoyable and interesting way to learn about Alexander the Great. Mr. Fox's voice and his English accent made it a pleasant listening experience. In a reasonably short time I felt I learned a lot about Alexander and his times. The accompanying written material was also useful. Mr. Fox showed a great command of the subject and discussed some of the latest sources from recent discoveries. There was an entertaining variety of information. Fox was the historical director for Oliver Stone's movie and participated in some of the scenes. He told what it was like to be a member of a cavalry charge and provided a vivid description of what it was like to be charged by elephants. In his travels Mr. Fox stood at the door of the tomb of Darius I where Alexander stood thousands of years ago. I think only an expert in this field would not enjoy these lectures.

    "Good introduction to Alexander"

I thought these lectures were a pretty good introduction to Alexander. Robin Lane Fox's reading was engaging enough to make my daily commute and lunch time jogs more enjoyable. The production is alright as well.

    "Don't like it"

This sounds more like a book reading than an actual course or lecture. The reading is not so captivating to fully digest the information that is being transmitted. I think this needs a do over.

"the modern scholar Alexander of Macedonia"

A detailed look at the life and times of this fascinating figure, a lot of interesting thoughts and ideas from looking at writings of the times, the politics of the area both before, during and after his life. The life and times of Philip of Macedon, Alexander's father, was shown to be essential to Alexander's later triumphs

    "awesome Alexander: awesome audiobook"

I really enjoyed listening to this book. I learnt so much about Alexander and the world he lived in.

I also really appreciated the personal touch of Robin Lane Fox. In particular, I laughed at Professor Fox's account of how he followed in Alexander's footsteps by running naked around the city walls of Troy (he hoped for Alexander's sake that there was less thistles when Alexander did this 2300 years ago). As payment for being the historical adviser on Oliver Stone's recent feature film of Alexander he also insisted on leading every Greek cavalry charge which occured in the film. Now thats an unusual history Professor!

    "Superb"

More than just an audio book, this is a series of lectures which includes a PDF file with useful links to extend as far as you would want to go to conduct a serious study of Alexander. Thoroughly enjoyable and essential tool to research this period.

    "Ancient History Brought To Life"

I have downloaded three (so far) Modern Scholars audiobooks and they have all been of a high standard, both educational and interesting. Useful also is the study guide that can be downloaded with most of these audiobooks.
This Alexander audiobook is presented by Robin Lane Fox, one of the great authorities on Alexander of Macedonia (or Alexander the Great, as he has come to be known). Alexander's father, Philip, conquered Greece and when Alexander succeeded him he extended the empire into Persia and India. When he died, the eastern part of his empire collapsed. However, the western part persevered and we refer to this as the Hellenistic period.

    "Alexander Interesting"

I have been told I was going to be called Alexander, prior to my mother intervening, but now, after listening to Professor Fox, I wish I had been. Prof Fox gets all the info across to you in these fascinating lectures on a man who surely must be one of the greatest men to walk the Earth; nearly conquering it! Well set out in production and easy to catch up on, these are the subjects that I wish I?d been taught on; it would have made my schooling more interesting.
