The Alamo

An excellent, truly compelling book. A great deal of focus on Bowie, Travis, and Crockett, their lives and how they arrived at the Alamo. A fair, even handed telling of events, wherein the central players are shown with virtues and failings, but without any of the post-modern revisionism and political correctness that pollutes so many history works today. Its a gripping story of brave men in dire straits who chose to go down fighting. And the author tells you up front, its a story of heroes. I've read a lot of good stuff on the Alamo, but this is the book I love.

Not worth it if you know your team has History

I was really hoping for soen insightful nuggets about the Alamo and from the very beginning the reader mispronounces several Spanish named towns and water features that it is hard to listen to. Disappointed is the story as well.

history recovered from the voices of the times

when you hear or read a history different from the legend, that your mind tells you is true. Legends are stories of larger than life characters. History is the testimony of Men. True history you recognize in you heart and mind. This is true history.
