Insightful, helpful, applicable.
Dave Grossman brings THAT ENDING.
I won't spoil it, but in the last few seconds of the book the tone of the book goes from 55 mph to Mach freakin' 12 as the patriotism literally EXPLODES into your ears, music even starts playing! I didn't know whether to laugh or gag it was so comical.
Honestly, GREAT BOOK, but there's something to be said about that ending.
If you recommend this book to a friend you will DEFINITELY know when he or she has finished it when they jump up and yell "AMERICAAAAAAA!!!"
The seriousness and somber tone of the rest the book is almost overshadowed by the ending of this book, it just doesn't fit to me.
Every part of this book is important and I found myself rewinding a lot.
Be prepared for that ending.
A bit of a scholarly work but well worth it.
This is a must listen if you have a carry permit or have firearms in the home for defense.

It's in the top 5 of my non-fiction list. Very informative.. I don't agree with all the author's conclusions, but it's a definite must read for people who want to understand how stress affects performance. If you are a first responder of any branch or want to understand the types of stress they encounter, this should be on your reading list.

No. But, a friend just gave me On Killing in paperback.. I am planning to start reading it soon.
No one particular moment.. There were many poignant moments in the book.
Col. Grossman took the time to narrate this work himself. His passion for understanding human behaviour under extreme stress and how to help military and law enforcement professionals is evident.
After reading/listening to this work you will gain a greater understanding of the challenges that the modern day warrior faces. Facts supported by evidence demonstrated through endless examples throughout history. On Combat offers the modern day warrior the practical knowledge needed to survive physically and psychologically.
On Combat and On Killing should be mandatory reading material for any law enforcement officer of military personnel.
This work will give the modern day warrior the tools he/she needs to survive the psychological stresses of peace an warfare. It will help the family members of these warriors to understand and how to readjust to life after a combat experience.

Nothing beats having the book narrated by it's author you can feel the passion for the subject matter in his voice.
This is a great book for anyone who works in extreme stress environment and understanding the effects of stress on the body, and it helps you to understand how to use the effects of stress to your advantage. This is not just a book for the military or law-enforcement it is also great for those in the medical field or any one living in a high stress environment.
It is stated in the book you do not rise to the level of expectation. But you sink to the level of your training.
It is great to have the author of the book as the narrator it is like you were at one of his seminars.
This book blew me away! What an incredible look into the world of the warrior. I learned so much about high stress/combat situations, and how to deal with them. I highly recommend this to anyone who has military or LE in the family, or even to someone who is interested in this field, amazing insight!
