What the Critics Say

"Strongly recommended as a supplement to textbook representations of World War." (Library Journal)

"This three-hour set is filled with the stories that bring history to life, the actual memories of real men and women. This is what history is all about, not a bunch of names and dates in a stuffy old textbook, but real people telling their own stories. Nobody does this kind of work better than NPR." (Audiobook Heaven)

"The well-selected stories take advantage of the fact that radio was the dominant news media of the period, splicing contemporary material with modern narration and nostalgic interviews." (AudioFile)

"Glimpses into a variety of aspects of WWII"
If you could sum up NPR American Chronicles: World War II in three words, what would they be?

Variety, riveting, and a bit random

What was one of the most memorable moments of NPR American Chronicles: World War II?

I had thought it would be more archived historical radio, but instead it featured a great many contemporary voices looking back at their experiences in the Second World War.

    Which scene was your favorite?

I really enjoyed the story of the WASP pilots.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

This isn't a book that could be made into a film as it is a series of radio stories.
