Publisher's summary

Thomas Edison was a bad guy and bad guys usually lose in the end.

World War II radio host Tokyo Rose was branded as a traitor by the U.S. government and served time in prison. In reality, she was a hero to many.

Twenty U.S. soldiers received medals of honor at the Battle of Wounded Knee - yet it wasn't a battle at all; it was a massacre.

Paul Revere's midnight ride was nothing compared to the ride made by a guy named Jack whom you've probably never heard of.

History is about so much more than memorizing facts. It is, as more than half of the word suggests, about the story. And, told in the right way, it is the greatest one ever written: Good and evil, triumph and tragedy, despicable acts of barbarism and courageous acts of heroism.

The things you've never learned about our past will shock you. The reason why gun control is so important to government elites can be found in a story about Athens that no one dares teach. Not the city in ancient Greece, but the one in 1946 Tennessee. The power of an individual who trusts his gut can be found in the story of the man who stopped the twentieth hijacker from being part of 9/11. And a lesson on what happens when an all-powerful president is in need of positive headlines is revealed in a story about eight saboteurs who invaded America during World War II.

Miracles and Massacres is history as you've never heard it told. It's incredible events that you never knew existed. And it's stories are so important and relevant to today that you won't have to ask, Why didn't they teach me this? You will instantly know. If the truth shall set you free, then your freedom begins on at the start of this audiobook. By the end, your understanding of the lies and half-truths you've been taught may change, but your perception of who we are as Americans and where our country is headed definitely will.

Awesome History Lessons!

I was really blown away at the stories in this book. Some new some old, some that I knew of some I didn’t. But through the entire thing I didn’t understand why these stories aren’t told more often!

Should be required reading

Where does Miracles and Massacres rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Among the best of the books I've taken in at present. A delightful break from my usually fiction fare.

What about Ron McLarty and Glenn Beck ’s performance did you like?

The mode of writing and narration really made you feel that you were hearing a story from a reputable source, rather than simply a list of facts (as history can sometimes feel). The story of history is brought beautifully to life in these tales

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I found myself caught up in a great scope of emotions from anger to joy while hearing these tales. Some of the best and worst - human volition and selflessness - comes brilliantly to life, and you'll find yourself emotionally dragged along. quite a ride!

How history should be taught.........

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Would absolutely recommend this to friends who both believe in either the best or worst of America. This has both and is told in such a way that you pour straight through it. Tells the stories of both the greatest and darkest days of our nation. Will really need sequels or a genre built around this history telling. I really also think it has a place in telling the stories or teaching world history, science, philosophy, and the other humanities..

What was one of the most memorable moments of Miracles and Massacres?

Battle of Wounded Knee........ It made me ashamed of our military leaders that at the time were wild men. To make maters worse they sent the same general to the Phillipines directly after, where he caused the same evil crimes.

Have you listened to any of Ron McLarty and Glenn Beck ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

The is the easiest "non-fiction" to enjoy to date....... The Overton Window and The Eye of Moloch could be listened to side by side..... Still had a being George Washington to it some how also; which I loved reading, but couldn't listen to.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

See Battle at Wounded Knee and the Real first fight/use of the second amendment in Massachusetts..

And now you know the rest of the story . . .

I really wasn't sure what to expect with this book but the other reviewers gave this high marks. I'm glad I took a chance. The book did not disappoint. The narrator, Ron McLarty, did a fantastic job reading the book; he definitely made a big difference between the book being good vs. it being really good. The stories were unexpected and disparate. Starting from the American Revolution up through the 1800s and in to WW II and 9/11. The stories were diverse and quite interesting. This book kind of reminds me a little of Paul Harvey's "and now you know the rest of the story." There are about 12 stories and each story is about 45 to 60 minutes. A few of the stories are tough to listen to because of the horrific atrocities described . . . such as the Battle of Wounded Knee and the Mi Lai massacre. This book will not disappoint.

Great!

Awesome for historical stories you've never heard of but could've been a hair shorter or condensed to keep my focus. A bit dragged out on them but the stories are great for those interested in history.

Very informative and eye-opening

I enjoyed listening to this book and it open my eyes to the fact that we can't always except things as they appear and it's worthwhile to look deeper.
