Excellent Book

What did you love best about Killing Lincoln?

Most of us are in the same boat. Lincoln was assassinated. Most of us knew little other than that. Not only was this book historical, it put the story together in a way that made is also entertaining.

Have you listened to any of Bill O'Reilly’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Bill O'Reilly is Bill O'Reilly when it comes to voice. As far as the voice goes, he needs to keep his day job.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes.

Great Story Trumps Subpar Narration

What did you love best about Killing Lincoln?

This is definitely a fascinating read for anyone that likes history. The brief focus on the final civil war battles and the in depth analysis of the plot to kill Lincoln made a very compelling book, in my opinion.

Who was your favorite character and why?

John Wilkes Booth is front and center, and while I can't say he was my favorite character, it was a telling narrative of who the man was and why he may have committed such a heinous act. I didn't previously know a lot about him, and probably don't still, but I do feel that I better understand the "why" he shot Lincoln.

What didn’t you like about Bill O'Reilly’s performance?

Bill O'Reilly is easily the worst part of this. His inability to pronounce basic words makes this a very frustrating book at times. Cavalry becomes Calvary ad nauseam, morass is pronounced as two separate words, more ass, quite frequently, instead of resuscitate he says resessitate, the carotid artery was pronounced as the carteroid, etc... (yes, I literally wrote down what he mispronounced).Ultimately, Bill O'Reilly can pronounce these words as he would like in his own life, but as he is narrating a book, shouldn't SOMEONE have stepped in and corrected him at some point? It's absolutely ridiculous.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The relationship between Abraham and Mary Todd Lincoln was a quite moving part of the book. To read of their devotion to each other, and particularly the President towards his wife I found to be touching and inspiring for spouses today as so many couples will never display the same dedication to the institution of marriage.

Well worth the time!

A little long winded at times. Loved the historical crossover of other memorable people of the time.

Yes, there were so many events and people involved, the ending of the war and the death of Lincoln. This was a fantastic history lesson.

Have you listened to any of Bill O'Reilly’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, however I'm looking forward to listening to "The Killing of Kennedy"

What a great book. There were so many stories within the Story. It gave me a better understanding of such a horrible war. There were many facts I was not aware of. I was also amazed at the personal connections between many of the characters and Lincoln or his family.

This is a great story, very well presented.

Where does Killing Lincoln rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is clearly one of the best. A lot of detail about the civil war's end and Lincoln's death that I had never heard before. Well worth reading or listening to.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Killing Lincoln?

We lived near Appomattox and visited that site many times. The narrative of the battles leading up to Appomattox was most interesting.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

An exceptional history of the civil war and the death of a president.

Enjoyable!

The book more then met my expectations. I enjoyed the history lesson. The narrator did a fine job. I look forward to Bill O'Reilly's other books.

Cavalry, Calvary, O'Reilly doesn't know the diff.

Apparently there is no audible editor for Bill. He spent too much time in religious school and not enough time at the dictionary. He refers to the part of the military using horses as the Calvary EVERY TIME. I liked the sidelights to history that this story provided but the reader's problems with the language were disturbing.

Gripping!

The book is gripping from beginning to end. So much never taught in school add o many years back.

Amazing Historical Account

I loved every minute of this audiobook. I appreciate how the facts are presented: as unbiased as is possible. Yet the story reads as easily as a novel.
