Publisher's summary

A riveting historical narrative of the shocking events surrounding the assassination of John F. Kennedy, and the follow-up to mega-bestselling author Bill O'Reilly's Killing Lincoln More than a million listeners have thrilled to Bill O'Reilly's Killing Lincoln, the can't-stop-listening work of nonfiction about the shocking assassination that changed the course of American history. Now the anchor of The O'Reilly Factor recounts in gripping detail the brutal murder of John Fitzgerald Kennedy—and how a sequence of gunshots on a Dallas afternoon not only killed a beloved president but also sent the nation into the cataclysmic division of the Vietnam War and its culture-changing aftermath.

In January 1961, as the Cold War escalates, John F. Kennedy struggles to contain the growth of Communism while he learns the hardships, solitude, and temptations of what it means to be president of the United States. Along the way he acquires a number of formidable enemies, among them Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev, Cuban dictator Fidel Castro, and Alan Dulles, director of the Central Intelligence Agency. In addition, powerful elements of organized crime have begun to talk about targeting the president and his brother, Attorney General Robert Kennedy. In the midst of a 1963 campaign trip to Texas, Kennedy is gunned down by an erratic young drifter named Lee Harvey Oswald. The former Marine Corps sharpshooter escapes the scene, only to be caught and shot dead while in police custody. The events leading up to the most notorious crime of the 20th century are almost as shocking as the assassination itself. Killing Kennedy chronicles both the heroism and deceit of Camelot, bringing history to life in ways that will profoundly move the listener. This may well be the most talked about book of the year.

The Public and the Private Kennedy

I enjoyed the writing and narration very much. It was a view of both the public and private life of Kennedy, as well as many of the other historical figures of the time leading up to the assassination. I found the sexcapades of both Kennedy and Martin Luther King, Jr. to be more disappointing than I had originally thought. I knew that their infidelities took place but not to the addictive extent that the book describes. Flawed heroes caught up in in an incredible time in history.

Superb!

What made the experience of listening to Killing Kennedy the most enjoyable?

It reads like a novel. I learned things about the JFK assassination I'd never learned.

Who was your favorite character and why?

JFK. Incredibly complex and great man. A conservative Democrat.

Have you listened to any of Bill O'Reilly’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Both Killing Lincoln and Killing Kennedy were equally excellent.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I was emotionally captured by Killing Kennedy.

Any additional comments?

While Bill O'Reilly is widely known as a stellar TV/Radio, news and opinion personality, host of the popular O'Reilly Factor, I believe as time passes his contributions as an author will surpass his other accomplishments.

O'Reilly/Dugard hit another one out of the park

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

After listening to Killing Lincoln, I was wondering how this writing team would handle such a wildly different topic as John F. Kennedy. I was rewarded with a fascinating narrative that wove together various strands leading up to the Kennedy assassination, in a quick paced and taut manner. This book is loaded with information that, while it may have been public, I did not know about. Puts the Kennedy assassination in a new and for me a different light.

Who was your favorite character and why?

While Jack Kennedy was the central character, this book also sheds a lot of light on Jackie Kennedy, making me a true admirer.

What does Bill O'Reilly bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

O'Reillly moves quickly through the narrative, giving voice inflections that added to the entertainment value of the book, if not adding new information.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No laughter or tears, but much fascination.

Any additional comments?

Hoping O'Reilly gets working on a book about the greatest hoax ever foisted on the American public - BHO.

Really Enjoyed This Book!

Would you listen to Killing Kennedy again? Why?

Yes I would. I feel this is a book that I could listen to again and be interested but more importantly pick up some information I might have missed the first time. This book is easy to listen to, it doesn't bog down with tons of non-relevant information.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I loved learning who Oswald was, where he came from, why he did what he did, and who his family was as well.

Which scene was your favorite?

The aftermath following the assassination was very dramatic and interesting to hear.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, but that doesn't speak to the character of the book. I liked listening to it in phases so I could think about what the author had said and pose my own thoughts and questions as I went along.

Any additional comments?

Great book, highly recommend it to anyone.

If you liked Killing Lincoln you'll like this....

Any additional comments?

I was afraid this was a rehash of the Warren reports but it isn't. Narriated by Mr. O'Reilly's recognizable voice, this starts from the beginning of Jack's political career to after the shooting (and we all know how this ends). And keeping with Mr. O'Reilly's style, he includes interesting historical tidbits about the people and places around Jack and the Kennedy's. As a good companion book, you might want to consider Jacqueline Kennedy: Historic Conversations on the Life with John F. Kennedy. Read it!! You'll like it!!
