Publisher's summary

A riveting historical narrative of the shocking events surrounding the assassination of John F. Kennedy, and the follow-up to mega-bestselling author Bill O'Reilly's Killing Lincoln More than a million listeners have thrilled to Bill O'Reilly's Killing Lincoln, the can't-stop-listening work of nonfiction about the shocking assassination that changed the course of American history. Now the anchor of The O'Reilly Factor recounts in gripping detail the brutal murder of John Fitzgerald Kennedy—and how a sequence of gunshots on a Dallas afternoon not only killed a beloved president but also sent the nation into the cataclysmic division of the Vietnam War and its culture-changing aftermath.

In January 1961, as the Cold War escalates, John F. Kennedy struggles to contain the growth of Communism while he learns the hardships, solitude, and temptations of what it means to be president of the United States. Along the way he acquires a number of formidable enemies, among them Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev, Cuban dictator Fidel Castro, and Alan Dulles, director of the Central Intelligence Agency. In addition, powerful elements of organized crime have begun to talk about targeting the president and his brother, Attorney General Robert Kennedy. In the midst of a 1963 campaign trip to Texas, Kennedy is gunned down by an erratic young drifter named Lee Harvey Oswald. The former Marine Corps sharpshooter escapes the scene, only to be caught and shot dead while in police custody. The events leading up to the most notorious crime of the 20th century are almost as shocking as the assassination itself. Killing Kennedy chronicles both the heroism and deceit of Camelot, bringing history to life in ways that will profoundly move the listener. This may well be the most talked about book of the year.

Facinating

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I've read numerous book on the Kennedy assassination and 'Camelot'. I truly enjoyed Bill O'Reilly's version. I found it filled with numerous tales/stories I had never heard before. And while other books were supposedly written with the assistance of the Secret Service members, those close to the President and even Jackie herself, I found this one to be the most believable of all. The fact that Bill O'Reilly read it himself made it all the better. I truly enjoyed the entertaining way in which the story line was presented. I highly recommend it. I liked this audio book so much I plan to try Killing Lincoln next.

Lots of new information...fascinating material.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. I love the narrator. He builds the tension, yet sticks to the facts. He frequently reminds the listener of the time line which also adds to the tension.

What did you like best about this story?

The details about the every day lives of the couple in the White House. I liked the honesty regarding the shortcomings of the president, how politics controlled the social relationships. It was all quite interesting to me.

What about Bill O'Reilly’s performance did you like?

I like his voice and the pacing with which he reads. He builds the tension nicely.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No, not yet. It just surprised me very much.

Any additional comments?

This author/reader really impressed me with "Killing Lincoln." I think I should have waited and done a couple of other books before hearing Killing Kennedy. Yet, I am not dissatisfied in any way. Factual, informative, entertaining... Good listening.

So amazing what kind of life these people lived.....I hope it's all true what O'Reilly wrote cause I so liked the book so so much. Keeps your attention throughout the whole book and hated it when it was over

No Conspiracy Theories Here

This is a well-written story. It provided a balanced view of Kennedy's personal and political life up to the day of his death. I enjoyed hearing the details around the PT 109 incident as well as the concise, in-depth and engaging profiles of the people around him including Jackie Kennedy, LBJ, Lee Harvey Oswald and many others who played an important role in JFK's presidency (and his eventual assassination).

O'Reilly's narration flows along at a nice pace and in no time you'll find that the book is finished. I recommend this book.

Remembering Camelot

Would you consider the audio edition of Killing Kennedy to be better than the print version?

Although I didn't read the print version of Killing Kennedy, I don't believe it could be better because I so much enjoyed listening to Bill O'Reilly's outstanding narration of this book. His fast-paced narration doesn't give one an opportunity of losing interest and I found it difficult to find a place to stop listening.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Well, obviously, John F. Kennedy is the favorite character, but I thought the book brought to life all the characters involved in Camelot. The insight into Jacqueline Kennedy made me respect and miss her even more.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

There are so many moving moments in this book; I believe the authors captured the human side of the President, First Lady, and every character mentioned in this book.

Any additional comments?

I tend to gravitate toward any book written about the Kennedys and believe I have read or listened to most. I wasn't disappointed in this story and Mr. O'Reilly does an outstanding narration. Even if all of the details weren't completely accurate, this telling of "Camelot" provided a brief look into the personal stories of so many of the people that were a part of President Kennedy's reign. I would recommend this listen to all.

Another Bill O'Reilly Success

Would you consider the audio edition of Killing Kennedy to be better than the print version?

Yes, because O'reilly narrates his own book.

What other book might you compare Killing Kennedy to and why?

Killing Lincoln, for obvious reasons.

What does Bill O'Reilly bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

familiarity with his voice and no-nonsense reporting style.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Kennedy's and Martin Luther King's sexual indescretions and addiction to illicit sex and power.

Any additional comments?

Great historical research and accurate representation of not-so-great, fallible historical figures immortalized by a biased media. This is a more accurate representation of mortal men and their flaws along with their successes. A fair and balanced view. A must read for historians seeking out a truthful analysis af the Kennedy era.

Can't Stand the Narration

Look I get it... when on a news show that barking delivery is effective. But it's. It great when you are reading a book.
Please hire Scott Brick or anyone but Bill O'Reilly really. I can't listen to him yell at me for 8 hours. Which is a complete shame, because otherwise the books are lovely.
