Publisher's summary

By the early 1960s, Ford Motor Company, built to bring automobile transportation to the masses, was falling behind. Baby boomers were taking to the roads in droves, looking for speed not safety, style not comfort, and Ford didn’t offer what these young drivers wanted. Meanwhile, Enzo Ferrari lorded over the European racing scene, crafting beautiful, fast sports cars that epitomized style.

Baime tells the remarkable story of how Henry Ford II, with the help of a young visionary named Lee Iacocca and a former racing champion turned engineer named Carroll Shelby, concocted a scheme to reinvent the Ford company. They would enter the high-stakes world of European car racing, where an adventurous few threw safety and sanity to the wind. They would design, build, and race a car that could beat Ferrari at his own game, at the most prestigious and dangerous race in the world, the 24 Hours of LeMans.

Go Like Hell transports readers to a golden era in racing when Ford’s innovative strategy led to victories on the track and renewed respect for the American automobile.

Better than the Movie!

The story is very engaging. The narration excellent except for the accents of some characters.

Great book about racing

Great story and well told. Dinged a star for the painful accents in the narration. Otherwise top notch. Any autosport fan should enjoy this thoroughly.

One of my Favorites

If you love the movie Ford v Ferrari like I do, you must give this a listen. I thoroughly enjoyed it and thought the narrator did a good job as well. With pretty much knowing the outcome I was worried it might be boring, but not the case, I was hooked start to finish and "motored" through this one quickly. Enjoy!

the real true story

I loved the book because it told the truth unlike the movie. The sad thing is 99% of the people that saw the movie will never read this book and will only get a distorted, twisted, and one-sided view of the story. This story that A.J. Baime has so clearly written is so way beyond what the movie revealed it's not even clear why they made it. Leaving out 75% of the story I guess works for hollywood but this book and story deserved more than that swing and a miss.
Highly recommended with a wonderfully talented reader too for this Audible version.
I bought the book. Would never consider buying the movie

A well written, easy to understand story of the glory days of racing!

This a good story for those who love Motorsport and the everyday man who simple wants to know more about the story of the Ford/Ferrari rivalry at Le Man.

The book forgoes techno-jargon and takes about the people who made it all possible. A nice east listening book. Highly recommended.

Great story, well told

I have always been a fan or cars and of Shelby, but I had no idea how integral he was to Fords Racing team. Great History of both Ford and Ferrari and auto racing in general.
