Publisher's summary

By the early 1960s, Ford Motor Company, built to bring automobile transportation to the masses, was falling behind. Baby boomers were taking to the roads in droves, looking for speed not safety, style not comfort, and Ford didn’t offer what these young drivers wanted. Meanwhile, Enzo Ferrari lorded over the European racing scene, crafting beautiful, fast sports cars that epitomized style.

Baime tells the remarkable story of how Henry Ford II, with the help of a young visionary named Lee Iacocca and a former racing champion turned engineer named Carroll Shelby, concocted a scheme to reinvent the Ford company. They would enter the high-stakes world of European car racing, where an adventurous few threw safety and sanity to the wind. They would design, build, and race a car that could beat Ferrari at his own game, at the most prestigious and dangerous race in the world, the 24 Hours of LeMans.

Go Like Hell transports readers to a golden era in racing when Ford’s innovative strategy led to victories on the track and renewed respect for the American automobile.

Enzo vs Henry, an epic battle

Where does Go Like Hell rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

The story was so intense it felt like a great fiction novel. The fact that all the stories, drivers, cars, and engineers were real made it that much better.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Enzo Ferrari was a genius and a visionary.

It kept me intrigued from start to finish.

closer to real history than the movie, Ford versus Ferrari. What a great story of metal in motion.

Awsome Each and Every Wird

This is a fantastic review of an important part of automotive history. The names of the players are still icons on the roads of the world. If you like cars, or just a little curious about what makes a gear head tick this is a must read.

Thrill Ride

I was about to go to my first NASCAR race, so I thought I should get a little background on car racing, a sport I've never really appreciated. Baime's book brought the sport, and the men and technology behind it, to life for me. The story moves fast, Ferrari, Ford, Shelby, and the competing drivers stand out as complex individuals, and the writing is excellent.

Edge of your seat historical action.

Amazing book that shows you the men behind iconic names like Ferrari, Shelby and McLaren. Really enjoyed it! It was incredible learning about the war between Enzo Ferraro and Henry the deuce and the development of the legendary GT40.

Adam Carolla & Ice T made me do it

Adam Carolla recommended this book on his Car Cast pod cast recently and I found out about Audible.com from Ice T. It's a strange way to trip across an audio book and player but we'll worth it. This book is incredible. I occupant stop listening.

Enjoy.

Great book and a very dedicated performer

The boom is very enlightening to the reality of the Ford V Ferrari story. It slows down a little in the middle of the book to make sure you know all the players which was very nice.

The performers accents are rough but welcomed to differentiate the various people and to break up his somewhat monotone.

Highly recommend. And never let Ken Miles be forgotten.

The book is better than the movie!

I enjoyed the movie “Ford v. Ferrari”. The performances and racing were fantastic! However, this book is even better! The author does a great job telling the story of the competition between Ford and Ferrari in the 1960’s, culminating with the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans. A must read for any racing fan.
