Publisher's summary

In the secret world of spies and covert operations, no other intelligence service continues to be surrounded by myth and mystery as does the Mossad. Created in 1951 to ensure the future of an embattled Israel, Mossad is responsible for the most audacious and thrilling feats of espionage, counterterrorism, and assassination. To some, Mossad is the precise and at times lethal instrument of Israel's will, a fiercely dedicated group of men and women: an elite intelligence arm. To others, Mossad is a fearsome intelligence organization loyal only to those who can control it: a shadowy ruthless cabal of spies. But no one has ever gotten close enough to Mossad to know the truth. Until now.

Gideon's Spies documents the Mossad's deepest secrets from the end of the Cold War to the present day. You'll learn how the Mossad undercut the CIA's position as the Vatican's prime intelligence source, how TWA Flight 800 was ruthlessly exploited by the Mossad, and most explosive of all, Mossad's involvement in the deaths of Princess Diana and Dodi Fayad. Gideon's Spies reveals the Mossad as it truly is: brilliant, ruthless, flawed, but ultimately awesome.

Contains less than half the passages from the actual book.

Like the heading says. If you are really interested in this book. Better to buy the physical version. The audiobook has a lot of passages missing from it.

Great story that Audible needs to remake

Loved the book and the author.

HATED the quality of the recording.

One more really bad point was the narrator didn't stop in between major stories, plots, or points. I can be listening to one story and if I wasn't listening for a second, I could find myself in the middle of another major story. Annoying.

You can't make up what's in this book. Terrific read and insight into one of the world's most famous and well-respected intelligence agency.

An interesting insight

Would you listen to Gideon's Spies again? Why?

Yes as there is a wealth of information to absorb and one is left with questions some time after listening to it

What was one of the most memorable moments of Gideon's Spies?

The revalation of what created the Mossad and thier philospohy.

What does Theodore Bikel bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

His use of the language and his easy listening style drew me into the story

a very good but disjointed history of the Mossad

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

The time was well spent , but it was very hard to keep up with all the jumps in time and personnel. It would have been better if the author would have dealt with the history chronologically - rather than jumping back and forth from one time and director of Mossad to another - often without any glue to hold the disparate parts together.

Would you recommend Gideon's Spies to your friends? Why or why not?

Yes. but ony to those who are familiar with intelligence organizations.

Which character – as performed by Theodore Bikel – was your favorite?

HIs narration was good because I thought I was listening to an Israeli telling the story

Was Gideon's Spies worth the listening time?

Yes

Otherwise, very interesting.

The sound quality was lacking, and I would have liked to hear the unabridged version. Otherwise, very interesting.
