Exceptional!
Even those not especially interested in Antarctica will find this a compelling and fascinating story. Incredibly the men survived. They worked together under good leadership while experiencing little, really no "good luck." At every turn the worst occurred, but they did indeed endure and survive. The author makes the ship and forces of nature come alive vividly. The reader is masterful. My boyfriend and I shared the audio read. We found the book compelling and looked forward to listening each evening. An absolutely exceptional true story!

Well worth the listen
Simon Prebble is one of my favorite Audible readers. He will keep you hooked into the story.
The story is amazing. One of those stories of deep commitment to the humanity and respect of others, and self sacrifice to the benefit of comrades. A story of hopeless struggle and overwhelming hope and achievement.

You can make it!
Sometimes books like this make me feel like a wimp - not this one. It showed that when you think all hope is lost, it is not. When you feel you cannot go on, but you must go on, you can. It showed that even in the most trying, most unimaginable difficulty, just keep doing what needs to be done to make it!

Great but some parts tough as an animal lover
The story is amazing, the reader was great- I never got bored...but I'm a dog person...and hearing about what happened to their faithful sled dogs- I had to skip those parts because it made me cry. 100% recommend besides that- amazing what humans can endure.

For anyone who loves adventures and long odds
Warm, vivid, empathetic and stirring writing. A great adventure story. And wonderful narration. Listening to this book helped me remember the stories I love and want to live. The characters are relatable, and all the more so with Prebble's voices and spot-on performance. Doesn't feel like an "old" book at all, though written decades ago. It's elegant and suspenseful and just well-wrought all around, I think.
