Twenty-one of his lectures survive together with a few fragmentary notes from others, all of which are contained in this narration.

Xenophon was a Greek who admired and studied with Socrates. He marched with the Spartans and later was exiled from Athens. He wrote about the history of his times, the sayings of Socrates and about life in Greece. Edward Bysshe translated Xenophone's work in 1702. This translation has continued to have an excellent reputation. In this work Xenophon discusses the views of life taught by Socrates.

Every turn of chapter starts back a little bit as if to refresh the listener who has had to dig out the next cassette. There's a lot of other things that date the piece. There's a little bit of audible breathing in the back ground. It's not annoying but it's there. Overall still good.

Is that all there is?
A story of the death of Socrates: wrongly condemned by the state. I was expecting something heftier. Kinda weird, but at least it's not too long. Contains some mumbo jumbo. Conservatives and people who believe in reincarnation are gonna love it, as well as anyone who just enjoys any and all sad stuff.

The reader is absolutely without motivation.
no motivation, both characters sound the same. it sounds like they forced him to get up in the morning and read it. and it's like he's rolling his eyes when he's reading it. awful rendition

great stuff
the only reason i give 4 stars instead of 5 is that they don't separate the dialogues into different chapters. So if you want to give the apology, you have to hunt for the beginning in the middle of "chapter" 3, or whichever it is

I sat amongst great men.
Is how I felt as I listened to this. It was my first audio book but soon; everyone had their own voice and I could not but distinguish. A man died.

An actual must read
If you picked up this book read it. You will rarely find so much wisdom in one place. I would recommend taking your time. Don’t stretch the book out a year, but you can do it in 3 - 5 days light reading. This was my first read and I had a wonderful experience.

Lost in the narration
Do not listen to this book while driving. Regretfully, the lifeless tone used by the narrator (who is capable of much better) put us all to sleep.
