Publisher's summary

In the summer of 1942, a band of citizen soldiers were brought together by the desire to be better than the other guy. At its peak, Easy Company, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, U.S. Army, was as good a rifle company as any in the world. From their rigorous training in Georgia in 1942 through Utah Beach, Market-Garden, the Bulge, and Hitler's Eagle's Nest, WWII historian Stephen Ambrose tells the story of this remarkable company. In combat, the reward for a job well done is the next tough assignment, and the men of Easy Company kept getting the tough assignments, from parachuting into France early D-Day morning to capturing Hitler's Bavarian outpost.

Excellent...

Having first watched the HBO version of the story and then listened to it on audio, it brought a whole new life to something I already thoroughly enjoyed. Ambrose finds a way to make you care about each man, making each one the hero that they truly were.

I wish it were Unabridged!!!

This is a great story and an enjoyable book. It is unbelievable what these men, and others like them accomplished in WWII. It really goes hand in hand with the HBO Series.

Good

Watched "Band of Brothers" and wanted more. Decided to do the book and it was alright. The series by far out did the book. Glad I listened but really nothing new the show didn't cover.

narrator.

Where is the unabridged version?

Great read, great listen, just disappointed there is no unabridged version. Cannot give 5 stars on an abridged version.

Read the Unabridged Version

This is an excellent story that spawned the HBO miniseries (also excellent). But, LISTEN TO THE UNABRIDGED VERSION. That wasn't available when I downloaded this many moons ago.

I recently re-listened to this and I was confused by the HUGE chunks of the story that were removed from this version. There is no reason whatsoever to go with this version. We're talking about a relatively short book anyway folks.

So, nothing to see here. Just move along to the unabridged audiobook. Off you go now.

5 Stars for the Story, 4 Stars for the Narration

I purchased this audio book after having watched the miniseries many times. I love the story. I love Stephen Ambrose. I love Stephen Ambrose's voice (he narrated D-Day). The narrator of this book does a respectable job, but no one can follow Stephen Ambrose.

Angels from the sky!

This book is definately a classic and tells the story of the men who sacrificed to deliver us from the German occupation. Living in Eindhoven, the Netherlands which was liberated by the 101st this book for me was very touching.

Well narrated, well written, it tells the personal story of the men who fought and died to fight the Nazis.

Too bad there isn't an unabridged audio version.!

Great Listen

Wonderful to listen to. Makes me want to read the book and watch the HBO mini-series. Ambrose has a gift for bringing out the horror and humanity of war. Sometimes, the characters (i.e. who was who) were a bit hard to follow.
