Publisher's summary

At the time of his tragic death in February 2013, former Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, the most accomplished sniper in U.S. military history, was finishing a remarkable book that retold American history through the lens of a hand-selected list of firearms. Kyle masterfully argues that guns have played a fascinating, indispensable, and often under-appreciated role in our national story.

Kyle carefully chose ten guns to help tell his story, including the American long rifle, Colt .45 revolver, Winchester rifle, .38 police handgun, and M-16 rifle platform Kyle himself used as a SEAL. This is also the story of how American innovation, creativity, and industrial genius has constantly pushed technology - and U.S. power - forward.

More than just guns ... and that's a good thing

I was a little afraid that this would focus too much on the gun and not enough on the history. It has a good blend of both. Gun evolution with good historical info describing the battles where the gun proved to be one of the deciding factors in the battle. With a little sniper bias :-)

Smooth writing and fascinating lens

Really appreciate the writing style and quality research that went into American Gun. It helps to explain context around current events in the gun debate and should be read as a text book in universities.

An exceptional history lesson

This book covers history and how the gun not only shaped this county but the world and for the better. If it would not for the gun in a brave persons hand the world would be very different.
