Publisher's summary

Here is the revised and updated 10th anniversary edition of the number-one New York Times best seller.

Over the past decade, A Patriot's History of the United States has become the definitive conservative history of our country, correcting the biases of historians and other intellectuals who downplay the greatness of America's patriots. Professors Schweikart and Allen have now revised, updated, and expanded their book, which covers America's long history with an appreciation for the values that made this nation uniquely successful.

A Fox News Version of American History

Very superficial. No real attempt to deal with criticisms U. S. domestic or foreign policies. Dogmatically frames almost all of U.S. history as the virtues of free markets versus the evils of regulation, never delves into why regulations may have been necessary to ensure safe food and drugs, clean air and water, workers' rights, protection of wildlife, or a check on the greed and reckless speculation of investment bankers. Rather, the free-market and conservative religion are constantly and dogmatically asserted as the panacea for all of U.S. ills. The book claims to be a response to Howard Zinn's a People's History, but never once does it deal with the criticisms leveled against U. S. interventions abroad. The authors do criticize slavery and racism, but these criticisms are extremely shallow and never look for their root causes in American ideas about class or in its economic system. The book is also written at a very simplistic level that mirrors the authors' very simple grasp of complex issues. If you are looking for a serious and scholarly defense of conservative ideas, this book will not even come close. For deeper and much better told overviews of U.S. history that are told from a conservative point of view, I recommend Paul Johnson's A History of the American People, or the Great Courses' U.S. History.

A Must Read For All Americans

In A Patriot's History of the United States, Larry Schweikart and Michael Allen exquisitely capture the patriotic history of our nation. While there is a definite bias, Schweikart and Allen acknowledge their bias and produce the facts along with clearly defined opinion. I believe that all people are bias, whether or not they acknowledge it. Thus, it is truly important to learn history from a variety of sources with a variety of biases, rather than accepting the first history book that you read as unbiased, indisputable fact (yes that includes school curriculum).

I am sixteen years old and listened to this book for schooling purposes (I am homeschooled) and any time an opinion was given I spent a solid 20-30 minutes researching the topic in order to find other biases so that I could better understand it. I encourage anyone who sees this review to read this book, research the events portrayed in it, and go on to read other history books from varying biases to ensure that you fully understand and appreciate your nations history. HISTORY REPEATS ITSELF UNLESS WE LEARN FROM OUR MISTAKES!

Finally, a history book I can get behind.

I liked the audio book version as a way to get a fresh view of history from a patriotic perspective while staying in shape. I'm 70 years old and learned many new things about the motivations behind the historical actions and surprising facts about many historic figures. I will probably listen again.

Wonderful book!!!

Great narrator and wonderful book. Very in-depth information and an obviously experienced, properly dramatic or plain-voiced narrator really made this audiobook. Information is conservative and Christian, therefore rendering it controversial, but as I agree with their views I found it perfect. Lent the book to an American history professor who highly recommends it. Do beware that the runtime is 55 hours; this is not some kiddie history book.

Wonderful book free of "hind sight" judgements.

Finally a Historical book that doesn't apologize for every thing this nation has accomplished in the last 240 years.

A BOOK NECESSARY TO UNDERSTAND PAST AND FUTURE

I have spent August, September and 10 days of November 2016 to finish the book. Time worth devoted, my understanding of USA and the world is more accurate now.
