1348. La peste nera e la crisi del Trecento [1348: The Black Death and the Crisis of the 14th Century]

    "Great practise for learning Italian"

I will start by saying I am not a native Italian. I do however live and work in Italy and often find the Italian language course available to the high level students unstimulating and too easy. With this in mind I decided to take a chance and download some Italian lectures (after all, speaking is what Italians do best, not narrating) and took a chance in this lecture. I've listened to it a dozen times now; not just for practise, but because the lecture was so interesting. It looks at the suprisingly positive results of the Black Death, both in terms of cultural and economic capital after a time of surfdom and inequality. It also acts as a timely message on over-population and its effect on limited resources. When there were too many workers, salaries went down, quality of life decreased and the top 1% got richer. I think we can all see the analogy.
Andrea Barbero is a great speaker; clear, concise and helpful in his explanations, without too much pomp that often goes into Italian speaking and writing. Paolo di Paolo, who introduces the lecture, should have been edited from this audio. One thing I hate about Italian public speaker is there always has to be a substandard orater listing off the speakers CV before they come on. It's so pointless, but unfortunatly a pre-requisite in Italy.
To sum up. A great lecture which challenged my listening skills.
