Publisher's summary

In the aftermath of the 1746 Battle of Culloden near Inverness, Arran MacLeod returns home, his face scarred from the conflict, causing even children to flee from him in fear. He discovers that his father has arranged his marriage to Rowena Munro, a local woman with impaired vision, in exchange for a substantial dowry and land. Rowena's companion, who accompanies her, instantly takes a dislike to Arran.

Resistant to the idea of marriage, Arran is reluctant to be bound, especially to someone he faintly recalls as a lanky, unremarkable girl from his past. His frustration intensifies upon learning that English agents are seeking those who supported Bonnie Prince Charlie, and the local sheriff ominously implies there is a bounty on Arran's head.

However, Arran's recollection of Rowena does not align with the present. She has grown into a stunning woman, yet one who is initially terrified of the daunting, scarred Highlander she is to marry. When Rowena discovers a treacherous plot that puts Arran in danger, she is confronted with a pivotal decision: to choose between her family and the rugged, scarred soldier she has grown to love.

Great Story

A bit much on the torture, but glad there was no rape. Other than that the characters were great, and I enjoyed the story line.

Clean historical romance

The story begins after the bloody battle of Culloden, which was a terrible time for the Scots. The hero is strong but not overbearing, and the heroine is a unique, resilient woman. How they navigate serious challenges makes an interesting book. The virtual voice was fine! I forgot it wasn't a real person.

Too much pondering

This needed a good editor to take out the frequent bouts of repetitive thinking, especially in the middle of action scenes. Lots of potential in the plot/storytelling but OMG get some expert help please.
