Publisher's summary

Responsible for protecting her younger siblings from their abusive father, Bethoc Matheson is in no position to rescue another soul in Scotland. Yet when she sees a bleeding man on the verge of drowning, that's exactly what she does, securing him safely in a cave where she can return day after day to tend to his wounds.

Sir Callum MacMillan can scarcely believe such a slight lass as Bethoc could save him from the grasp of death. But he knows the telltale marks of an angry fist on her skin, and he knows she has the soul of a fighter within her feminine frame. Raised to be a protector of the weak by his Murray clansman, Callum would prefer to be the one saving her - and save her, he will. If he can first survive the treacherous attack that led him into her irresistible arms.

Excellent romance

The narration was spot on for all characters. Very interesting premise. A reminder of how women were treated as subservient and having no value. Miss Howell does it again.

Calling & Bethoc’s Live Story

This was a fast moving book, no angst, and plenty of drama. Loved all the characters. Great narrator.

Good story but not her best work

I love Hannah Howell and that will never change. However, this story was choppy at best and barren in other places. I finished it because I admire Hannah Howell and her ability to bring characters to life. I was disappointed a bit because I felt like non of the characters were fully developed and like the storyline didn't flow.

Highland Chieftain

This is the 21st book in the Murray family series. Once again I am enthralled with the clan who can win against all odds and evil. Bethoc Matheson was raised by a man who until recently she thought of as her father. After her mother died in childbirth she finds out not all is what it seems. Her life was not a happy life. With a man who welds his fist if his children cross him and brothers who just seem to appear to work. But don't look like her or the man who "fathers" them. She has been planning to leave for awhile. But worries about the boys and her little sister. But when she helps a man who she found half drowned and with bad injuries her plans take a different turn. Sir Callum MacMillan was just supposed to pick up a charge and take him to safety. But when he was jumped by several men wanting the boy and his, Callum's. demise things take a different route. What happens in this small village is not what it seems. Men are dying and their wives are being blamed and hung. With all the questions and answers not adding up someone with the kings ear comes and helps with the mystery. But is all clear sailing from then on? Or will other obstacles come to light from these two getting their happy ending? The narration was entertaining and I listened till the end.
