Publisher's summary

Gaslight goes high-tech in USA Today best-selling author Cate Holahan's new stand-alone thriller in which a family must determine who the real enemy is after a brutal home invasion breaks their trust in each other.

Her public life Jade Thompson has it all. She’s an up-and-coming social media influencer, and she has a beautiful new home and a successful architect for a fiancé. But there’s trouble behind the scenes. To Greg’s children, his divorce from their mother and his new life can only mean a big mid-life crisis. To Jade, his suburban Connecticut upbringing isn’t an easy match with her Caribbean roots.

Her private life A savage home invasion leaves Greg house-bound with a traumatic brain injury and glued to the live feeds from his ubiquitous security cameras. As the police investigate the crime and Greg’s frustration and rage grows, Jade begins to wonder what he may know about their attackers. And whether they are coming back.

Her secret life As Greg watches Jade’s comings and goings, he becomes convinced that her behavior is suspicious and that she’s hiding a big secret. The more he sees, the more he wonders whether the break-in was really a random burglary. And whether he’s worth more to Jade if he were dead than alive.

Pretty good

Worth a listen. Some parts are really well written. The dive into paranoia is really well portrayed. Story not bad. It’ll pass the time.

Surprisingly Good

I was not familiar with this author and decided to purchase it when it came up as the offer of the day. I’m very glad I did because I was intrigued from the get-go.. it realistically portrayed the trauma somebody would endure with a severe head injury and kept me wondering throughout how it would all end. I really enjoyed Jade’s mother as a peripheral character. I was surprised at the outcome. This book would have been worth a credit but I probably would not have found it had it not been offered as the deal of the day. Thank you Audible!

easy to follow

The 2 different actors made it very easy to follow. I enjoyed the book even though the ending was a little vague.

Uneven performance, not a bad plot

This is a story about distrust, lies, and paranoia. It stays believable but just. It is interesting to see how the 2 main characters spiral after being attacked in their home. What bothered me was that the woman’s voice playing Jade was flat and robotic, whereas the male counterpart reading Greg’s chapters was great, alive, angry or relaxed or stressed… the gap between the 2 performances was jarring.

Perception is often deceptive... or is it?

I was hooked on this book from the first chapter. From there, it's a real who dunnit and you almost think you know. I admit, I was on the right track at first but then, plot twist. Hmmm... just what is Jade really up to and why?

Gave it 2+ hours can't take narration anymore

The story may be better with different narrators. It started off with a bang and then moved to a slow drudge. It may have picked up later, but I couldn't take the narration. The man was not horrible, but too chipper in parts that should have been dark. The woman is slow and stilted with little to no emotion. I had to speed it up when she was reading, but that didn't save it,

Great story!

I enjoyed this book even if I was frustrated with things the characters did. If they made obvious choices, what would there be to write about? The narration was great too. All around great read!

Solid story.

This was quite the audio experience. The narration was fantastic.

Jade and Greg are happily engaged getting ready to go to a party when they're brutally beaten during a home invasion. They're no ordinary couple. They have a ~20 year age difference, but she loves him for him, not his successful career as an architect and all his money.. but his family doesn't seem to think so.

They both have people in their life with motives to do this and the stress and anticipation of not knowing wears them down mentally, and as a couple.. especially since Greg has a brain injury from the attack. Jade still lost more and Greg is the star of the show. He has main character syndrome(aside from actually being a MC in this!).

I thought it was a really interesting journey. There was a lot going on, plenty of leads to follow, but it was easy to follow and wasn't confusing. The characters were very layered and interesting. Idk why it's rated so low!

Anyway, Greg is an idiot. I just need everyone to know this.
