Secret societies and civil war....

After Alshari Court Wizard Pentandra survives her third assassination attempt in the Tower of Sorcery, she sends her deputy, Sir Rondal, to investigate the mysterious origins of the attempt while she contends with Alshari court politics. Matters come to a head when he and Kitten rescue an old woman and her grandson from certain death...only to discover she is the lost hedgewitch who gave Pentandra a book of secret prophecies about the future.

The tension rising in southern Alshar seems to break when the Duke and Duchess announce the relocation of the court to the summer capital of Vorone for a season. Pentandra intends to relax and manage her lands for the summer, safely away from assassins and undead. But her friend and liege, Minalan the Spellmonger, announces that he’s taking the summer off, too, dumping the responsibilities for leadership on her overburdened shoulders while he journeys on an expedition of exploration. What could possibly go awry?

Within days of the Spellmonger leaving, the Kingdom is plunged into a civil war between the knights of the kingdom, led by Prince Tavard, and the nascent power of the magi, led by Viscount Terleman. As the battles play out in rapid-fire fashion across Gilmora and the Wilderlands, Pentandra increasingly finds herself losing control of the situation. Not even the return of the Spellmonger from his expedition could be much help, as he has changed in ways that disturb both Pentandra and Ronda....

The only hope for relief and the future of the kingdom now seems to lie in the wrinkled hands of a very old, very wise hedgewitch!

Simply stunning!

There is only one other epic series that I have been truly invested in, or rather addicted to in this way. From the release of the first book I devour every moment of this brilliant saga and my only complaint is that now I am back to the yearning as I am forced to wait for the next release. Terry Mancour is a genius and John Lee is masterfully brings the characters to life with his narration.

A breakthrough in the history of writing

Why not? This book is exceptional Terry Mancour and for each of the genres he throughly and wonderful trespasses on. I have no doubt his goal was simply to tell a good tell, but this book and book 13 are as good Sci-fi, fantasy, mystery, horror, historical fiction, some real quantum physics (my job) magic realism, and revenge-like-Eastwood. The author is on a real roll here and I can not stress how good a story this is and how well it is told. I can’t say why because I’d only be revealing all the surprise. On the surface is a running discourse on prediction of future events, but the events of the story unfold to undermine the technique to criticize used to analyze prediction itself - except in one way Minalan’s mind. I read it straight through and then listened to it. Then wanted more. I always want more, but this time, it burns (to borrow a phrase). This is as good as it gets. John Lee is amazing as well, Terry do not replace him.

How can this guy write ao many great books?

once again another spellmonger book knocks it out of the park. There are so many teasers for the next novel that I am having trouble waiting for it.

absolutely amazing

Loved it! Another wonderful addition to the spellmonger series! The story only unravels more questions while you question the certainties that are obvious to see. Is Minalan able to make to save those he is responsible for? Can he over come the bias of other races and prevail?

Best book so far.

Terry just keeps getting better and better. Thank God he's committed to about 40 of these damn things because I'll never get bored of living this world's stories.

Wow. I mean, really, WOW! 10 Stars

One of the best, so far. It begins to tie everything , all the prior storyline, into one. Fascinating. On to #15, . . . soon, I hope!!

this series just keeps getting better and better. I always listen to the last 1 or 2 books just before the new one is released. Makes it even better I think.
