Publisher's summary

An effective and practical program based on the Paleo lifestyle, customized to fit your needs!

As the Paleo movement sweeps the nation, the health benefits of following the lifestyle of our hunter-gatherer forebears are undeniable. But what happens when we hit a wall and weight loss stalls, energy flags, or we're tired of restricted eating? We're not cavemen anymore, so why should we follow a strict caveman diet?

In Your Personal Paleo Code, Chris Kresser uses the Paleo diet as a baseline from which you can tailor the ideal three-step program - Reset, Rebuild, Revive - to fit your lifestyle, body type, genetic blueprint, and individual needs. Kresser helps further personalize your prescription for specific health conditions, from heart disease and high blood pressure to thyroid disorders and digestive problems. Along with a 7-day meal plan and delectable, nutritious recipes, Your Personal Paleo Code offers natural solutions and an avalanche of groundbreaking advice on how to restore a healthy gut and immune system; how to eliminate toxins; which fats to eat liberally; how to choose the healthiest proteins; and much more. Best of all, you only have to follow the program 80% of the time; there's room to indulge in moderation while still experiencing dramatic results.

Based on cutting-edge scientific research, Your Personal Paleo Code is designed to be flexible and user-friendly with effective action steps to help you lose weight, reverse disease, and stay fit and healthy for life.

Putting it all together in digestable form

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this book to anyone considering Paleo, already doing Paleo, and even those like me who have been doing it for many years.

What did you like best about this story?

Chris lays it all out, breaks it into "digestible" pieces that anyone can get behind and makes it easy to start and know where you are going as you progress.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, I don't think there is are many books with this much information that you can weave into a one-sitting listen/read. But that's ok. Each chapter builds on the one before. You get a foundation and then it progresses.

Any additional comments?

I have been part of the Paleo lifestyle and many groups for 3 years since I read Good Calories, Bad Calories by Gary Taubes. I decided I was going to die if I did not. 36, obese at 320lbs, and sick all the time, prediabetic, bad joints..... the list goes on. The entire idea of Paleo has progressed and refined over this period and I never thought anyone could put it into a cohesive tome for the beginner to the advanced. But Chris has. Love the book.

If you only read one book on health, this is it!

Would you listen to Your Personal Paleo Code again? Why?

Yes, there is so much good information here

What was one of the most memorable moments of Your Personal Paleo Code?

Funny thing but it wasn't the book, it was one of the reviews about the book from someone complaining that he had too much self promotion. I didn't get that. There is so much information he couldn't possibly include everything in one book so he reefers you to his website from time to time. And he says "personal paleo code" a lot I guess, but that's what your trying to figure out! I think he just might have been annoyed by how the narrator puts emphasis on it.

Any additional comments?

Fantastic book! I've read LOTS of diet books and listen to podcasts all the time and I found this one really well rounded and includes so much really great information.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Your Personal Paleo Code?

I like how he goes over the physiology and chemistry of the reason the diet works.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

For someone who is already on the Paleo Diet, this book confirmed and explained they whys, which my Homeopath was very vague on.

One the most life changing books I've read

A totally different perspective than I had been exposed to before, this book totally opened my eyes and changed my views on diet and nutrition. Following this book's advice, I lost 15 lbs quickly and more of less effortlessly; --and have kept it off, more or less effortlessly, while eating quality, and quantity; --and oh so satisfyingly!

I NO LONGER suffer from regular heartburn, and NO LONGER have to pop antacids on a regular basis. I no longer feel guilty or worried about eating, or my weight. I now feel great about eating good nutritious foods, filling, satisfying meals including eggs, steaks, veggies, with confident abandon, and relishing pleasure. Even when I occasionally indulge myself in something "sinful", I can savor it without concern.

It's early to say for sure, but after decades of nagging allergies, my allergy symptoms seem to have abated, and I haven't taken anti-histamines yet this spring. If that holds, it would be another life-changing blessing of as great or greater magnitude than losing the belly.

WARNING: This book may seem hard to believe at first, as it runs counter to so much "conventional wisdom" we've had drilled into us as gospel over the years. If you give it a hearing though, you will find it packed with good information, which you can see reinforced by other reports that are coming out and have come out in the media as the government and medical establishment quietly adjust their recommendations in recognition of the fact that they've been feeding us a LOT of WRONG dietary information on fat, cholesterol, meat, eggs, butter, salt, etc, etc, for decades.

Better than merely educational, this book presents a simple, practical, sensible, sustainable plan for a "willpower-light" dietary lifestyle that keeps me lean AND satisfied.

I have shared the book with others, and the feedback I've gotten is that this approach seems to work as well for other men as it does for myself, but that women seem to find it harder to lose weight. I have no way of knowing if this gender differential is consistent among a larger sample of the population, nor the whys or wherefores, but I note it here to qualify my recommendation to reflect the fact that in my experience, it's an especially beneficial approach for men.

Self Promotional all the way.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Less advertising of his site, it is more a "hook" for his future articles which are not
any different than other "Low Carb Diets"

Would you ever listen to anything by Chris Kresser again?

NO!

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Fred Sanders?

Nothing wrong with narrator.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Your Personal Paleo Code?

All the Self promotional material.

Any additional comments?

When I went to his website to check it out all I found was how to order more items.
I wish to return the book back.

Good information

I have listened to many audible books about health and nutrition. Thought I should listen to at least one Paleo book. Info I have already heard on elimination diets etc and reintroducing foods. Yet, Good information for those who don’t know about it. Narrator was fine but at times I would get bored listening- too monotone? Not sure..
