Beginning over 5,000 years ago in northern India, yoga has long been a discipline of spiritual and physical exercise. The practices include meditation, controlled breathing, and body postures which encourage health through relaxation. The goal is to unite the body, mind, and soul to reach an inner harmony and ultimately making life more calm and happy.

I've been wanting to take up yoga for quite some time now. When I got the opportunity to review this book I jumped at it. It turned out to be even better than I thought. I didn't expect to get much from such a short audio lesson, but it turned out to be just what I needed as a beginner, and more.
The book gives you a quick and comprehensive rundown of yoga including basic positions and what you will need. I was actually skeptical about trying to learn yoga from just hearing someone, but that turned out to be an unjust prediction. The descriptions in the book turned out to be great.
The narrator was quite good as well. Perfect for this book.
I requested and received a free copy of this audiobook from the author, publisher, or narrator in exchange for an unbiased review. I was NOT required to write a positive review and this reflects my honest opinion of the work.

The full title of this marvellous audio release is almost longer than the recording itself!
Running at only 24 minutes it’s a superb introduction to yoga, teaching basic moves, discussing dos and don’ts, what you’ll need, and tips to help you progress further. It’s surprising just how much training and information you can fit into such a short period of time without feeling rushed. It’s a good length too, because beginners often want a quick fix at the start of a new journey, dipping their toe in the water rather than diving into something more comprehensive from the onset.
Narrator Sunny Norwood Buck has a clear, soothing voice that articulates Sarah Moore’s knowledge and guidance with encouragement and positivity. With only one other title to her name on Audible, she shows no signs of being a novice. Buck appears to be an ideal reader for the self-improvement arena and I hope to hear more of her in the future.
Moore’s two-week training program begins with some context, which often goes unrecognised as a valuable part of any lesson. By understanding the ‘what’ and ‘why’, it’s easier to connect with the lessons ahead. She provides a very brief introduction to yoga, including some history. She outlines some of the principles that are relevant across all forms of yoga - including relaxation, proper breathing, nutrition and visualisation – then goes on to discuss the different types of yoga, the importance of choosing a style that matches your abilities and goals, and, finally, the benefits of practicing yoga.
The yoga lessons themselves are surprisingly clear. Any hesitation I had about audio lessons for a physical activity were quickly dispelled. Clear instructions are given in a dot point format to walk the listener through setting up and executing each pose. The plan provides one new pose per day with a weekly review. The first week includes the ‘easy pose’ and ‘corpse’ to start and finish each session, along with simple poses such as the Mountain Pose, Warrior Pose and Downward Dog. The second week’s lessons include the Boat Pose, Half-Wheel Pose, Triangle Pose and Upward-Facing Dog, amongst others.
Moore winds up the lesson with some great tips for beginners, some obvious, some not so obvious, and she spends time at the end reminding the listener of the importance of diet.
Yoga for Beginners is an excellent audio resource for those wanting to try the discipline for the first time. It sits up there as one of the best self-improvement audiobooks I've reviewed on my site at SaidNotRead dot wordpress dot com. Naturally, see your doctor if necessary before engaging in any new form of exercise, then consider this audiobook as a start to your improved well-being.
This is a great book for beginners. It teaches you the basics about yoga and yoga poses. It teaches you to be aware of your breathing. The narrator did a great job.
I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.
I've rarely met an audio book I didnt like. I love rom-com, cozy murder mystery, and self-help.
The narrator speaks clearly and Yoga for Beginners has great tips for yoga beginners like myself. Gives you great instructions on poses, some advice on eating, and how to get excited about doing yoga. Definitely a great listen if your wanting to start. It makes me happy to wake up everyday and look forward to listening. Many times I listen while doing artwork. I find it very relaxing.
Yoga For Beginners was a good intro into basic yoga poses. These are the basics in getting started. It teaches you first and foremost to be aware of your breath. A good understanding of the practice of yoga and its different types helps the practitioner customize their own routine. I think this book was based on hatha yoga which uses sun salutations to "wake the body" and "open the mind" but this wasn't mentioned. This is in fact an essential part of yoga.
This is teaching you the poses and how to do them in an easy to follow way. To me, I think that listening to the instructions would be easier than watching a video or looking at a book making this ideal. All in all, once you learn these poses and begin putting them all together then you have your routine which should always begin with sun salutations.
Sunny Norwood Buck does a good job guiding the listener. She has a nice voice and spoke clearly. She made this a pleasant listen.
