Is it possible to eat normally, five days a week, and become slimmer and healthier as a result?
Simple answer: yes. You just limit your calorie intake for two nonconsecutive days each week - 500 calories for women, 600 for men. You’ll lose weight quickly and effortlessly with the FastDiet.
Scientific trials of intermittent fasters have shown that it will not only help the pounds fly off, but also reduce your risk of a range of diseases from diabetes to cardiovascular disease and even cancer. "The scientific evidence is strong that intermittent fasting can improve health," says Dr. Mark Mattson, chief of the Laboratory of Neurosciences, National Institute on Aging, and professor of neuroscience, Johns Hopkins University.
This audiobook brings together the results of new, groundbreaking research to create a dietary program that can be incorporated into your busy daily life, featuring:
Far from being just another fad, the FastDiet is a radical new way of thinking about food, a lifestyle choice that could transform your health. This is your indispensable guide to simple and effective weight loss, without fuss or the need to endlessly deprive yourself.

I don't normally write reviews about health/diet books but the ideas in this book have really made a difference in my life. I started this diet about two months ago and I have dropped about 30 lbs (from 207 to 176 lbs). When I started, my dream weight was 180 lbs. Now I must confess that I tweaked the system to speed up the weight loss. First, on the fast days I only eat between 50 to 200 calories (not the 600 allowed for men). I also do heavy cardio on the fast days (sometimes up to two hours) and lighter cardio on my feast days. Now that I am at my ideal weight I'll probably lighten up the workouts and eat the full 600 calories on the fast days (or only fast once a week). Losing weight this fast is probably not safe or healthy, but it's what I did. I think that following the diet more strictly would also have brought results, just slower.
I really like this diet since 5 days a week I can eat whatever I want (within reason) and frankly I am just not willing to give up chocolate, chicken wings, chips and salsa, and beer. I've tried other systems (such as "I Can Do This Diet") without any real or lasting effects (normal yo-yo effects). But this one worked for me.
Background info: I am a 51 years old male, and a little over 6 feet tall. I've been stuck at around 200-215 lbs for years even though I go to the gym somewhat regularly and I eat mostly healthy food. I teach for a living.
Every year I have to lose about 15 pounds to make weight for a couple of athletic events. This year I tried FastDiet, and did the job in half the time. The fact that you can have 500-600 calories during the fast days takes the edge off. Found that I had less appetite on the regular days. This diet, combined with the right foods, can really shed pounds while not making you suffer through your normal work day.
Got the point across. Not pros but nothing unpleasant.
Actually, yes. Which is strange because this is a nonfiction diet book. But it was very interesting and enjoyable. I could probably pick up a few facts and tips that I missed the first time around.
I was amazed at how good the narrators were considering that they were the Actual authors of this non-fiction book. Especially Mimi Spencer. She could start a new career as a narrator if she Wished. And Michael Mosley read clearly and slowly enough to understand him.
Diet books don't usually make me laugh or cry, getting on the scale does though. (Cry)
I have read many books on intermittent fasting and this was one of the better ones because it did not go into too much detail with the science of it. It gave you just enough science to understand. Another helpful thing was it gave you a lot of tips on how to approach doing this Fasting protocol. It also had emails and twitters which were real testimonials of people who tried the fast diet and had had success with it. I enjoyed this, it was very pleasant to listen to, I just started the fast today and I highly recommend the audiobook. I wish you good luck on the fast and please wish me good luck. Holly
This book could have been done in under an hour.
The padding was incredibly clunky. The introductions seemed to be repeated and the last two chapters were simply emails written to the author(s) and added nothing at all to the book.
I have been following the plan now for three weeks (male, 5'10" 215 lbs) and have lost 6 pounds. I was afraid of the idea of fasting, but the authors' assurances that it is okay and one is not going to drop dead are helpful, and they are right. It is not really that hard after the first day, which of course feels weird as a change in habit. I have also noticed the improved mental acuity and upbeat mood that research shows the intermittent fasting can enable.
Dr. Mosley's explanations of the science behind fasting and how it is natural for humans is first-rate and very accessible. The book is narrated by the authors; both have intelligent and pleasant voices. I am looking forward to reaching my goal weight in 40-45 weeks, and enjoying the health benefits of this simple program as I get there.
I am a traditional Roman Catholic I also like Rabbinic authors.
Informative. Easy to understand. Good information on what foods to eat in the pdf section.
Yes great listening. I use in the car since I am on the road a lot.
The personal side of the diet. They use it and it works
"An easy way to stay healthy and not miss out on the pleasures of food"
I lost 2-4 lbs each week. I will continue this method not only for the weight lose but for all the Heath benefits.
Nothing new in this one. Fasting for health has been around for a very long time. This one promises the ability to "eat whatever you want" on the days you don't fast, but ultimately it comes back to: Eat healthier on the days you don't fast and you'll do better. The bottom line with any healthy nutrition regimen was put best by Michael Pollan:“Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.” If you want to add fasting or intermittent fasting to this, go for it!
I started the Fast Diet on Jan. 5th 2014 so it's been just over a year now. I have found it to be the easiest diet I've ever been on. I could never stick with any diet for more than a few months before and I've tried everything else in my life. I'm 57 and have been on and off of diets since my 30's. Always ended up gaining the weight back plus more. I can truly say this is something I can do for the rest of my life! I have lost 31 lbs which doesn't seem like a lot but everyone thinks I look like I lost 50-60 lbs. Unfortunately I didn't take measurements like they suggested but I wish I had because the difference in inches would be much more impressive. I feel like I have kept all of my muscle which weighs more so maybe that's why I look like I have lost so much more. The lesson here is if you decide to try this take the measurements first. I used to be a size 16. Now I am 10-12 depending on the brand of clothes. There is no measuring or constantly obsessing about food every day. Two days a week I stick to 500 calories. The other 5 days I don't think about it at all and just eat whatever I want. I did not exercise at all! I'm thinking I will add exercise now since I feel so much better. I only plan on losing another 10 lbs. I don't know how long it will take but I'm not worried about it because I plan on doing this for the rest of my life. Once I lose that last 10 lbs. I will begin the maintenance phase of only one fast day. I will say that in the beginning it's a little hard but I listened to the book every fast day for the 1st six months and that helped a lot! Each time I listened I picked up on something I missed that would give me encouragement and motivation. I still enjoy listening to it again occasionally. Bottom line is TRY THIS AND DON'T GIVE UP!! IT GETS MUCH EASIER!!
