Heart disease, cancer, DM, MS, and so many other disease are exploding in the United States. Find me a hospital that is not building or planning to build a cancer center and I will show you a dying hospital. This book really looks at what we are eating and the conclusions are clear, we are eating ourselves to an early, premature death. It also shows the link between our NON protective Government and the Food Industries to promote cheap low quality "food". This book will make you look closer at what you are eating and understand the investment you are making in yourself with today's meal will affect your health some time in the future. I found the information to be presented in a manner that allows the reader to understand and make his or her own conclusions from the findings presented. The referenced materials clearly show this is not your average book. This is book is jam packed with detailed information and will be referenced by many future authors. It will change what and how we eat and hopefully make this a healthier stronger country. I hope!
I find having a book read to me in this audio format, give me the opportunity to think about the topics in a different way. The timing of the words, pauses, and just the readers understanding of punctuation, increases my depth of thought somehow. I found myself building topics and connecting things I might not have if I was reading it myself.
I am moved when I see our leaders of this Nation, supporting laws that will make us sicker and sicker as a nation. Its clear our National Health Problem is rapidly going to exceed the ability to treat all the sick. Hospitals and Healthcare is growing to become its own industry. Is that good for our country? This book clearly illustrates we, as a nation, do not have long before complete economic collapse. The few healthy working people will be left to support the growing sick population and a National Healthcare Insurance will not be able to fix this crisis! It makes me wonder what ethics these businessmen and congressmen are using because the economic impact is going to be the downfall of our country! Gun violence is truly dramatic and headlines worthy to sell TV ads but when you think about the 3600 heart attacks every 24 hours across this nation, who is crying about that number? We have big problems in this country and they are clearly bigger than LAW trained career politicians can even understand. When you think about what this book is saying, maybe you will shift your thinking and vote differently with your next meal. But I am sure if you are still in your foggy brain from all these bad foods you will remain ignorant, tired, and unable to think clearly anyway so this issue will be far beyond your ability to understand!
This is book should be a wake up call but most will never find it, read it, or understand the impact it will have on this nation... sad.
The best non-fiction book from Audible I've had the pleasure of listening to. The author makes a compelling argument for the use of a whole food, plant based diet to avoid Western health problems and possibly reverse some diseases. It is not a diet book or a glitzy self help book. This is revolutionary. The author pieces together conclusive medical research as to the problems with American's obsession with eating meat. He is not some hippy vegetarian but a respected clinical resesarcher and advisor. Don't worry, he explains it simply. This will keep your interest and make you think twice before grabbing the chicken fingers or hamburger. If you've watched others die an uncomfortable death due to cancer or heart disease, if you want to avoid that for yourself, then stop what you are doing and listen to this book!
I'm a meat and potatoes guy, always have been. I can count off the vegetables I will willingly eat on one hand. I think vegans are all wacked-out, hippy nuts! Now, having said that, in the past month after reading this book I find that I have drastically cut back on my dairy consumption, I have only had beef a handful of times, and I am eating a more vegetable-based diet. I don't know that I'll ever go vegetarian, but I will definitely be more omnivore than carnivore.
This book does not try to bully one like Skinny Bastard and it isn't all new-ageish like Dr. Weil's 8 Weeks to Optimal Health. Facts are presented with minimal commentary by the author.

The main point I got from this book was that there is a lot of misleading information out there about what consists of a healthy diet. The author provides scientific evidence that animal-based diets can lead to adverse health effects. He advocates eating a plant-based, whole foods diet and cites some examples where this diet has reversed symptoms of heart disease.
The author connects a range of diseases with protein from animal-based foods. He points out that a lot of information on nutrition is misleading and that his information mainly considers individual nutrients separately which misses the whole picture.
The book was very good and convincing. However, the information did get a little bit repetitive, perhaps as a way to emphasize the point. I'm not ready to give up animal proteins entirely but I am convinced and have started to incorporate more plants into my diet.
Despite the vituperation against the medical, pharmaceutical and food industries, this is important information for anyone who wants to avoid cancer, diabetes, obesity and other diseases associated with diet. The material is very well presented and makes a clear and irrefutable case for avoiding animal protein.
Finally there is hope that I am not predestined to die from my genes. These doctors have the answers to a heather life and it is very simple... Just eat plants. If it means no heart disease, no diabetes, no cancer.... WOW, I'm in. Yes, I agree, this book will change your life it you follow their advice and eliminate animal products from your diet. A must listen for all. Enjoy.
Great narrator. Very unconventional information that animal-based diets,including dairy, are causing our diseases of affluence, including obesity and cancer. Well worth listening too. We won't hear this message in many other places given its business implications.
This is a great audio book and I really enjoyed listening to it. I think the story has it all; facts, statistics, case studies, a Doctor willing to tell the truth, and the "Why" you should take action. After listening to the audio book I want to go buy the book just to have it for reference. Believe me, this is not a waste of money to have it in both forms. I will listen to this more than once.
How the story goes against the grain of conventional belief.
He keeps the story interesting. I almost felt like he was reading the book with interest and not just narrating the book.
Here is a Doctor that had to reflect on his own beliefs when he started to understand the data he was receiving from the research he was doing. He didn't just stay with the system he was a big part of. He took a bold leap of faith to bring us truth. That could be the difference between a scientist and a doctor.

I spent the first two hours basically listening to "Americans are mislead by the social media about what is healthy and my research shows that having high animal based diets leads to health issues later in life" rephrased a few hundred times.
Now, I am not saying that the book doesn't have some interesting points or facts about it, because it does. Did I decide to become a Vegan after reading this? Well, no. Because the thing I was really interested in was the actually study that is mostly skimmed over.

"Thorough and Informative - a brilliant overview"
This is a faithful and engaging reading of what is obviously a complete and well-researched account of the effects of different diet on our bodies. The narrator is competent with scientific data which means the detail doesn't jar - and a book which I know to be heavy on the tables of figures is 'abridged' in such a way that there is no confusion and there are no missing pieces of information. It will illuminate a thought stream for you - the way of plant-based proteins. A nice counter-argument to the ubiquitous theories and crash diets of Atkins, Dukan etc. it will make you aware of scores of studies which will enhance your knowledge of diets. What it won't do, however, is explain the 'why' behind the results. It is essentially a compendium of studies and results to prove a point and as such is a great insight.

I have recommended this book to everyone who is interested in health and diet - and even suggested it to those who are resolute carnivores! I am appalled that the research findings are not more in the public arena. It is shocking that we have been led to believe that dairy is a necessary part of our diet, that parents are still urged to feed their children dairy - despite the research.

The importance of a healthy diet is now readily acknowledged and here we finally have a book which clarifies once and for all, which diet is necessary for health and wellbeing: a WHOLE food diet, not a fad, or a short lived fashion. This book based on true scientific fact is the conclusions of an on-going 20+ years research programme.
I was shocked to learn just how powerful and corrupt the whole food producing chain and medical system has become. I never realised that the food producers had so much power over hospitals and governments. Medical care, has become yet another big money making business, making people better is not its objectives, rather the contrary, if people become well, then they no longer need the expensive care, so less money is made.
Stefan Rudnicki made me feel that Dr. Campbel was sitting in the same room as me, telling me his life's story.
There wasn't any moment in the book which moved me, as such, but a gradual dawning that the food industry and the medical profession are in cohorts to KEEP us unhealthy, because it is good for business
Although I am convinced that Dr Campbel's research and conclusions on how everyone should eat a plant based diet, is correct. If this, became a reality, the impact on world economy, would be devastating. How many people would lose their jobs? What would farmers do? Even though hospitals are also keeping us sick, for the purpose of profit. They too offer jobs to many people.
It is a sad fact that maybe it is too late to for governments to "save the health" of the majority of people, because the food chain and the "medical chain" provide so many jobs to so many people. Radically changing the way we eat, would mean, that practically, the whole food chain would collapse. Drastically reducing or eliminating serious chronic and life endangering diseases would mean needing less hospitals and doctors, less research etc. More losses of jobs.
However, I myself, will start to change my diet and embrace Dr Campbell's advice and I suggest others do so too.
