Yeah.. it's a shame how chopped to pieces this version is. I was really looking forward to this book after reading the description. I have about 2 hours of the audio left and after seeing just how HUGE the hard copy actually is I knew that something strange was afoot.
This audio is a butchered version.. I'm going to assume it's for good reason, but I'm more than annoyed at wasting a credit on this. I'll finish it, and I'm sure it will be good info, but there's so many topics in the description that I want to conquer and I'm peeved at having to pay twice to do that.
This was my first Tim Feriss book, and it seems interesting I will know more when my hard copy arrives from Amazon. The author has a good conversational writing style and the narrator was great, his voice fit the prose well. The person who abridged the text must have a history working with the CIA in document redaction. Every detail concerning the implementation of his protocols and diets was removed. There was very little continuity to the abridgment; in one place the subject jumps from using cold therapy to increase calories burned to the technique for clitoral stimulation. The book has some very intriguing premises and protocols for body transformation and performance enhancement but the abridgment completely wrecked any continuity or usefulness of the book. Overall do not waste your credit on this book and buy a hard copy.
First it is important to note that, Yes I knew it was abridged and I had already read over half of the book before purchasing it using the Audible app for Android on my Motorola Droid X.
So with that said I was severely disappointed in the way it was abridged and found it humorous that the audio book was 6 minutes shy of the 4 Hour mark. It was more of a sampler that leaves out some really big pieces of the book, like entire chapters and the antidotes and inserts that make the hardcover copy great.
Here are just a few things that are missing: Reaching Genetic Potential in 6 months, Running 50K in 12 weeks, Sleeping 2 Hours Per Day, Reverse Permanent Injuries, Add 150 Lbs to Lift in 6 Months, Pay For Beach Vacation w/ Hospital Visit, and MUCH MUCH MORE.
It also would have been great if Ray Porter could have narrated this book as well. He gave a great feel to "The Four Hour Workweek" audio books.
My hope is that Tim will have an UNABRIDGED version available soon.
This version is missing entire sections of the book and doesn't match the description at all. It left out chapters that I purchased it to learn about.
Although so much if the content is clearly well researched, the presentation, at least in abridged audio format, left me confounded as to where to begin. It's like a choose your own adventure book, but I need a navigator.
This may be one of those books that's better read than listened
to. I found the ideas fascinating but I need to go back and look at the material more closely. I need to find the PDFs online. So far I haven't been successful.
I love the 4-Hour Work Week. While Tim and I have very different life goals, I learned so much from him, and have listened to that audiobook over and over. The 4-Hour Body, however, was a huge disappointment. He's a pervert, and in ways that are anything but scientific, he gives one of the worst formulas for a healthy body I've ever heard.
Am I an expert?... no, but a year ago I did lose 50 lbs. and I've kept it off for a year now. At 36 I'm in the best shape I've ever been in. There are programs out there that can really help, but I did not find them in this book.
I don't know. I bought this book because my life is better because of Tim. Reading the 4-hour work week book changed my life for the better.
The success of that book must have gone to his head, because now he thinks he can preach this garbage to me.
The narrator was fine.
Huge Disappointment. I lost a lot of respect for Tim Ferriss. He was someone who I totally admired, and now I'd be ashamed to associate with.
Well, I guess this is basically an excerpt from the actual book, or a very abridged version. It has some good tricks or "hacks" but it has a lot of fluff. Now listening to Alpha 2.0 which has similar narration and fluff up to chapter 6 at least. Basically they go like this, 70% fun stories and "show authors are pretty smart" and drop F bombs in a manly way, 20 % show that everything you've thought was right is wrong, 5 % studies etc that show that hormonal levels are important AND if you're lucky 5% actual content that has to do with eat better, sleep better, workout better and lots of emphatic, "man up, believe that you can change your life" So if you read this, put on your headphones, get moving because you don't want to sit down and listen to this fluff, you might as well be working out. In a nutshell, 90% empty promises, but there is about 10% of content. I'm realizing these are not real books. They're long ads, for themselves. I give two stars because it's not 100% fluff.

I'll update when I find a good book that gives a good run down of the modern state of work out science. However, getting a notebook and writing down what you eat and lift/run etc. is probably more important than the book you're reading. It's more about ownership. These books are good to listen to as you workout, you might glean something.
This book is written by a 30-something year old man with his generation in mind. He is honest about the fact that he is not a physician or even a scientist, that he just "experiments" and for that I praise his honesty.
Early in the book talking about his prescribed eating for a slim body he says, a few times, that we should not be prepared to LIKE the food he's proposing but that we should just eat it for our health. All well and good. Then toward the end of the book, comparing people who follow calorie restricted diets he categorizes them as "wasted" and "unhappy" which he attributed to their not eating what they want .. and then he talks about how it's better to live shorter and be happy. Or be a little heavier and happy. Seems contradictory to his earlier statements and pushing body weight, fat % etc.
Ferris does explain, or try to explain, female sexuality and pleasure points, and I guess that chapter alone could sell the book, but I'm not sure it was worth the whole "read."
As stated earlier, there were at least half a dozen times listening to this book when I thought "ah, this author is so young .. " He doesn't deny it. Just take that into consideration when getting the book. I don't think it was worth a full credit!
