First, I have to admit to being a big fan of the 4 Hour Work Week. It's an inspiring work! In this book however, I'm seeing the downfall of one of my heroes. The little bit of good information it contains can be found elsewhere and presented better. There were glimpses of this potential version of Tim Ferriss in his last book, but he truly reveals his pension for narcissism and cheating in 4-Hour Body. I'm very disappointed.
Yeah.. it's a shame how chopped to pieces this version is. I was really looking forward to this book after reading the description. I have about 2 hours of the audio left and after seeing just how HUGE the hard copy actually is I knew that something strange was afoot.
This audio is a butchered version.. I'm going to assume it's for good reason, but I'm more than annoyed at wasting a credit on this. I'll finish it, and I'm sure it will be good info, but there's so many topics in the description that I want to conquer and I'm peeved at having to pay twice to do that.
There are so few times when I get the chance to use the word "nincompoop" in all seriousness, and I would like to thank Ferris for this opportunity. I bought this book because a personal training client of mine asked my opinion on the material. Not only is this book woefully unscientific (most of his claims are founded on little more than his own personal experience, not even the experience of others). Oh yeah, and most of it is downright science fiction. Gaining 20 lb of muscle in 30 days on just 4h of exercise and one binge day a week? Uh huh, and how did that "minutes a day" ab plan you bought last month work out for you? Also, I have no idea what a 15-minute female orgasm has to do with four hours OR your body. He's just playing on male insecurities, and all he has to do is sell you the book and he's laughing all the way to the bank. Save your money for someone with actual credentials who bases their claims on peer-reviewed research.
Tim Ferris has done a LOT of independent research on how to get the "ideal" body. The results of his experiences are chronicled in an easy to listen to format. I found myself taking many notes while listening, but then found his detailed program is available online (so save yourself the hassle and look it up so you have all the details of the program wihout getting into a wreck!). He walks you through his personal history and this helps one better understand how he came to the details. Will I follow all of his advice? I'm not likely to put an icepack on the neck daily in order to increase my metabolism, however he does have many which I will add to my daily program.
Effective, Smart, Precise
I like the 2 pounds of weight loss experiences after 5 days of loose practice. I am beginning the diet on Monday after reading this last Tuesday. These past 5 days I have loosely started following the diet for preparation and practice. Slow carbs, nothing white, 1.5L of water in the morning, 30g of protein for breakfast. I'm looking forward to the outcome in a month.
My girlfriend appreciated the section about the 15 minute orgasim. Though we haven't followed the outlined practise, the precise locations are effective. My girlfriend, though in a orgasim induced hazed, mumbled that I should pop my collar and consider myself a hero. Though I have heard these things from her before, she particulary noted how much more deeper her O was.
Zach is a good reader with a timbre in his voice that is nice to listen to. As this is more of a self help book rather then a story, Zach's reading helps you to keep focused on the material.
It's well worth the read. I appreciate the 80/20 rule.
This was my first Tim Feriss book, and it seems interesting I will know more when my hard copy arrives from Amazon. The author has a good conversational writing style and the narrator was great, his voice fit the prose well. The person who abridged the text must have a history working with the CIA in document redaction. Every detail concerning the implementation of his protocols and diets was removed. There was very little continuity to the abridgment; in one place the subject jumps from using cold therapy to increase calories burned to the technique for clitoral stimulation. The book has some very intriguing premises and protocols for body transformation and performance enhancement but the abridgment completely wrecked any continuity or usefulness of the book. Overall do not waste your credit on this book and buy a hard copy.
Whoever decides no how to abridge a book really.. you can't cut out 1/2 of the contents. I have a hard copy as well, I listened and it seemed to abruptly end. It's sad, I can't see any reason why they omitted these key chapters. Please buy the book, it's highly recommended, but this audio version is not. Random House should really re issue this.
Just received my paper copy of this book and realized that the audio book should have been about 20hrs long not 4. The book is awesome, just wait for the unabridged version or get the visual reading version [paper or kindle]
First it is important to note that, Yes I knew it was abridged and I had already read over half of the book before purchasing it using the Audible app for Android on my Motorola Droid X.
So with that said I was severely disappointed in the way it was abridged and found it humorous that the audio book was 6 minutes shy of the 4 Hour mark. It was more of a sampler that leaves out some really big pieces of the book, like entire chapters and the antidotes and inserts that make the hardcover copy great.
Here are just a few things that are missing: Reaching Genetic Potential in 6 months, Running 50K in 12 weeks, Sleeping 2 Hours Per Day, Reverse Permanent Injuries, Add 150 Lbs to Lift in 6 Months, Pay For Beach Vacation w/ Hospital Visit, and MUCH MUCH MORE.
It also would have been great if Ray Porter could have narrated this book as well. He gave a great feel to "The Four Hour Workweek" audio books.
My hope is that Tim will have an UNABRIDGED version available soon.
I found this book clinically entertaining. It was entertaining in the way that Ferriss laid out, in insane detail, how to improve your body and your sex life. It was clinical in the way that Ferriss so finely detailed the precise steps required to max out in bed. Narration was perfect.
