Is this really science?

I’ve listened to the first five chapters of this book and I can’t finish it. My chief objection is the continual references to god, such as “in his infinite wisdom, god made our brains so that etc. etc.” and in reference to our brain’s capacity for spiritualism he says “most of us believe in a higher power...” (really, ya sure about that?) I just don’t want hear god stuff in a scientific book; the credibility is lost as far as I’m concerned. I was really surprised to see that no one else commented on it. I listen to scientific books all the time, and no doubt some of the authors are religious, as is Blaylock, but must we hear god talk mixed in with scientific references? (Don’t most scientific writers know to keep it to themselves?) I tried to set aside my discomfiture and absorb the information, but by the fifth reference or so I just couldn’t trust the author’s integrity any more. I’m an atheist—when someone talks to me as though god were a real thing, they may as well be talking about puff the magic dragon. They seem loonie to me, and everything else they say could be all make-believe too, for all I know.

But not just that, I found the author didn’t explain the WHY behind the facts—that’s how we learn and remember things, but understanding why they are so. So instead of reflecting to myself “cool, that’s interesting” as I often do listening to science based books, I found myself trying to memorize the facts so that I might be able to apply the stuff to my life in some meaningful way. But all I can remember is “mercury is bad, note to self: stay away from mercury” and “magnesium is good, take some of that”. It just got really boring. There’s got to be a better nutrition book out there.

Tough listen but really educational

This book contains a lot of very technical information. There's lots of it that's easy to digest, but much of it requires a rewind and relisten to absorb. If you're serious about your health and really pay attention, this book has amazing information that is based on research and fact.
I listened to the audio book and then went and purchased the printed book for reference. It would be great if the author provided a .pdf reference for his vitamin recommendations and a few other items.
Overall it's an excellent listen. Just make sure to pay attention or you'll find yourself rewinding frequently

I Wish I Had Never Listened to This

Is there anything you would change about this book?

After 20 hours of listening I still have no idea what the health secrets are. I am convinced that it is a miracle any of us lived past the age of 10. My only guess, since he continually recommends supplements of all kinds for every disease and element that can effect our health, that I should be taking 30 - 50 single vitamins and oils. He focuses so much on everything that is wrong with our health, the health system, our society, other doctors, dentists, and such that the message of the title is completely lost. I really have no idea where to start. Lots of information about how our body works but that is about it.

Would you ever listen to anything by Russell L. Blaylock again?

I would not listen to anything else from Dr Blaylock but I would buy his books for reference if I needed statistics. He is very smart and he lets you know that no other doctor will do.

What does Tom Weiner bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

It took longer to get through the material. The story is quite long and boring so I would have skipped all the fluff in this book.

Did Health and Nutrition Secrets That Can Save Your Life inspire you to do anything?

Pull all my teeth out that have fillings.

Any additional comments?

This audio is not worth the 20 hours it takes to listen to it. Buy the book and keep it for reference and just skim through the interesting parts.

Good Tips on Nutrition and Toxins to Avoid

This book has lots of good tips on what to chemicals avoid and what supplements to take. It's a scary world out there! Mercury, aluminum, MSG and fluoride to name a few. It makes me wonder how polluted my brain and body already are! i agree with another reviewer that this book is challenging as an audiobook. Because, it lists a lot of details about supplements to take, and other chemicals to avoid. It would help if Audible.com offered a supplemental download like they do with some other books. Otherwise, you need to write down notes as you listen. And, it's hard to know all of the spellings. I'd also recommend the book, 'Doctor Yourself' by Andrew Saul. It's also more upbeat.

Very informative with HEAVY research

I loved the research that supported the authors claims. The author keeps hitting home the key supplements you should take. I went out to Costco and Amazon.com to get 4-5 supplements (out of the many)he recommends.

I am a Chiropractic student and plan on using information in this book to educate my future patients on Nutrition.

I would have given it 5 stars if a PDF of the supplements and the recommended dose he recommends listed by chapter.

He does mention "God" a few times which seemed out of place, but it didn't take away from the message.

The Most Honest Medical Book - eye opener!

What did you love best about Health and Nutrition Secrets That Can Save Your Life?

Sound advice, scientifically substantiated statements, awesome knowledge, logical explanation of otherwise very difficult concepts. Such a rare find in a panoply of pseudo- medical literature for the masses.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Health and Nutrition Secrets That Can Save Your Life?

Every bit of info that Dr. Blaylock shares with us is at price of gold. Practical, substantial how to get well and stay well.

What does Tom Weiner bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Good pronunciation of so many medical, chemical, biochemical and pharmaceutical terms.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No,because this is not a romance, by far. It is a manual; a superb manual of health and nutrition.
Together with a print version I'm using it to better my health, my family and friends.

interesting and informative

What made the experience of listening to Health and Nutrition Secrets That Can Save Your Life the most enjoyable?

I liked the in-depth coverage of what's harmful to the body and how it harms the body. Workable solutions were offered and although my antennae go up when I hear recommendations of supplements because someone's going to profit from them, this book offered other ways to prevent and treat these harmful poisons.

The book also suggested many ways to avoid these toxins and ways to keep the body healthy to dilute or prevent the effects of toxins.

I liked how the book spoke in detail about specific things that toxins do to the body. Now I understand why mercury, lead, MSG and DDT, for example, are so harmful, and why I should have my amalgam fillings removed.

Who was your favorite character and why?

N/A

What about Tom Weiner’s performance did you like?

He spoke clearly and slowly and pronounced very difficult words in an unhurried way. Nice tone too. I think this was a difficult book to read, given its scientific sections which could have sounded dull. His inflections kept the subject interesting.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Learn about toxins, how to avoid them and survive despite them.

Any additional comments?

I'm keeping this book so's I can hear it again later. There was a lot to digest. I wouldn't recommend this to someone who didn't have an interest in biology as there was a lot of in-depth information at the cellular level.
