Publisher's summary

Foodist is a manifesto about real food and real science that proves once and for all that sustainable weight loss is possible by incorporating fresh, seasonal - and delicious - ingredients into every meal.

If you downloaded this book, there's a good chance this is not the first time you hoped a new eating plan would help you lose weight. Dieting is a popular hobby in the 21st century, and the result is typically a slow but steady weight gain over the years. Oops. Diets fail because they rely on willpower and restriction for achieving health goals, and ignore the reasons these tactics always backfire. Becoming a foodist helps you give up dieting forever and get on the real path to healthy, lasting weight control.

Foodist is an approach that actually celebrates food while taking you through the nutrition and psychology involved in eating well to help you move beyond the daily obstacles and bad habits that keep the tasteless, empty, and unsatisfying food-like products on your plate. Losing weight no longer has to be about sacrifice, deprivation, and willpower, and food will turn from something you fight into something you can actually love again. As Darya writes, "You don't need a diet. You need an upgrade."

Smart, accessible, and engaging, Foodist will help you tailor your eating habits to match your lifestyle and your food preferences, making sure the path you choose works for you in the short- and long-term. Not only will you permanently build healthier habits into your daily life, you'll lose weight and enjoy food like never before.

Applicable and actually useful!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes!! The stories are relatable and the advise is straight forward. She doesn't sugar coat with lots of the normal hype of impossible promises. I have applied a considerable amount of the strategies in the book to my own busy life with some wonderful results.

Great narration and engaging content

It is unusual to find an audio book that is read by the author in which the narration is this high-quality.

The content was engaging, well-organized, and fun to listen to. I have listened to other audio books about eating and food, and this was on par with the best of them.

Disclaimer: I may be slightly biased by the fact that she is married to one of my favorite technical innovators, Kevin Rose. LOL

Great approachable strategies to reshape your life

Darya Rose lays out a concise explanation of the problems and hurdles people usually face when trying to live healthier lives. She also provides research based strategies that she and many others have used. While there are a few times she gets into the weeds of neuroscience to help those who want to know the science, the vast majority of the book is clear and understandable by anyone. Her wonderful sense of humor and anecdotes make this serious subject matter not just palatable, but enjoyable like sprinkling a little cheese on your broccoli.

Listening Again and Again!

What did you love best about Foodist?

Darya Pino Rose

What was one of the most memorable moments of Foodist?

The most memorable part for me was when she talked about her father's story at the end.

Any additional comments?

This book made me rethink all the diets that I've ever been on and all the weight that I've lost and gained back. I am in a place in my life where I NEED to get this weight back off of my body if I ever plan on being happy again. Listening to this book inspired me to change the things that I can control in my life. I control the food that goes into my body so I can change what items those are.

She went through a few short stories with people trying experiments in their daily life to see what makes them the most satisfied. It was really interesting how each of them played out and it made me want to try a few of my own.

This book is different from other dieting books because she doesn't go on and on about exercising or about taking food off the menu. She explains how you can eat those naughty foods intertwined with eating good foods and still be capable of losing weight. I hope the information that she gave in this book helps me, because I'm definitely going to try some things out.

I will say that this book and theory seems like it would work best for a single person. I'm not saying its impossible to do this with a family setting in mind, but it might come off as geared toward the single lifestyle.

Amazing narrating!

The (audio)book really enlightened my views on health and more specifically food, and the traps of living in a globalized world! Darya did a really great job narrating her own book (Duh!) and it kept the reader/listener very interested in the upcoming chapters of the book. It was really my first audiobook that I completed, and now I am completely hooked - thanks to Darya! My favorite part was the interview with the founder of Instagram, Kevin Systrom, and one of his early engineers.

love the philosphy

i really love the philosophy of this book. It is uplifting, and a relief that dieting is not the solution, but developing and maintaining a lifelong "healthstyle"...I plan to buy the physical book and keep this as a guide/manuscript. Very practical advice on what to do - how to eat mindfully in particular.
