Its a good listen despite being totally misleading

What would have made Fitness Confidential better?

Any Actual fitness or diet advice would have been nice. No Sugar No Grains, Lift free weights... That's IT !
Two of the 4 Covers major selling points DON'T EXIST in the book

NO Fitness Advice.

His store does inspire.

No Dirt, other than he hates all but private gyms and all trainers other than himself can't be trusted and are incompetent out only for money.

And it is very confidential. He keeps all the useful information to himself

How could the performance have been better?

The author tries on many occasions to make the narration sound spontaneous with little anecdotes. It doesn't work. Bad Idea.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Fitness Confidential?

Tell the Truth.

Its your standard Sports biography all about his life and how great he is. Standard " I was born in a log cabin" stuff and I did it all myself except for the help from some of the Top Doctors and endurance athletes Blah blah.

Any additional comments?

Its a good listen despite being totally misleading about the content.

The best voice in audible with the lungs to match

What made the experience of listening to Fitness Confidential the most enjoyable?

Unlike 99% of the audio books out there, Vinnie (the author himself) actually reads the book and sometimes goes off the script and inserts rants and thoughts. I have already read the book, which was awesome for its content, but the audio book brings my reading to a whole new level. I also enjoyed the last section with Dean Lorey, co-writer on what went into writing the book.

What other book might you compare Fitness Confidential to and why?

I would compare it to a mix between Finding Ultra by Rich Roll and Kitchen Confidential, but much better

What about Vinnie Tortorich’s performance did you like?

I love his true southern Louisiana accent in addition to his occasional off text rants.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me feel every emotion from inspired to laughter to tears.

Any additional comments?

A must buy!

Vinnie's story

What disappointed you about Fitness Confidential?

This book was more about Vinnie then fitness. He talks about his young life, being in football, being a fitness instructor, sex with customers, cancer, his bike races etc.
What little fitness he discusses items such as this: calories in does not equal calories out. A clear violation of thermodynamics. Do not eat grains or sugar but all the bacon and fat you want (a modified Atkin's diet) which is unhealthy in the long run.

Has Fitness Confidential turned you off from other books in this genre?

No just his future books!

What didn’t you like about Vinnie Tortorich’s performance?

Vinnie thinks he is a comedian so he continually broke script from his written books to crack unfunny jokes.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointment that I wasted money on the book and Vinnie profited from it.

Any additional comments?

Don't waste a penny on the audio.

The other reviewers are right, I loved it!

I only read this book because it got such great reviews from other readers and I'm very happy that I did. I thought it might be a whole mess of celebrity dirt, and I couldn't have been less interested in that, but it wasn't what I expected at all. The main reason I liked the book is that Vinnie comes across as such a charismatic, decent, no-nonsense, imperfect, relatable guy.

He gives out a little bit of very sensible fitness advice and mainly left me with the impression that 1) there is a generalized 1-size-fits-all fitness/nutrition plan that anyone can use as a starting point, 2) there are no detailed fitness/nutrition plans that are 1-size-fits-all, and 3) he's on your side, with full awareness of how hard it can be for some people, no matter where you are in your journey.

The second theme of the book is how the fitness industry fleeces the public. Finally, there are many funny stories from Vinnie's life as well as some inspirational stories relating to struggles that he's overcome.

It is light reading/listening, but I laughed out loud a lot, enjoyed the experience, and even learned a little.

Not for me unluckily, nothing new, too much story

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

A more fundamented concept. He brings the same already known protein + fat based diet that tones of authors did and honestly there are better books if you want to follow an Atkins style diet (Atkins itself or TNT...). By the way, Atkins himself died of a heart attack, not a good sign.I don't believe the "diet" - or eating style - he proposes is good for everyone I personally tried it several times before reading his book and lost weight in the first 2 weeks only, then the body seemed to adapt and keep the weight. Besides, my skin was extremely oily and I looked older and tired and I literally felt dirty inside. The advice for exercises is also not new, it basically says you get out from it what you put into it.

What could Vinnie Tortorich have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Maybe I'm just the wrong target since I study nutrition and have read several books on the topic. But anyways, less story and more concept and more practical advice would have been good.

Which scene was your favorite?

None in particular, although he has nice stories, I bought the book looking for a different content.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Vinnie is a funny guy with nice stories to tell. It'sjust not what I was expecting.

The best fitness book I've ever read

If you could sum up Fitness Confidential in three words, what would they be?

I must first admit that I am cheating a bit. Fitness Confidential came out on audio book tonight, and I've only listened to about an hour of it. I have however read the physical book fully.

To sum it up in three words - Simple, No-Nonsense Approach

Any additional comments?

Vinnie tells it like it is. He isn't trying to sell you meal plans, supplements, or any of the other garbage that other fitness "programs" offer. I've been following Vinnie's advice now for just a month and I've seen some great gains (losses really). He is a very down to earth person and I think you'll really enjoy this one.

BEST. FITNESS. BOOK. EVER.

Best fitness book ever - and the audio gives extras. This is the beauty of self-publishing. Also, I like the fact that the "ghost" writer gets credit up front and center. That is as it should be. (The publishers wanted cuts or changes. True to self, Vin said "No thanks, I'll do it my way" - well he actually probably through a cuss word or two in there, but you get the ist.)

No holding back honesty. I needed this kick in the but and hope I remember to plug in to the podcast.

inspirational

Where does Fitness Confidential rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This book was the first audiobook I have listened to narrated by the author. I LOVED EVERY SECOND OF IT. Vinnie is very motivating and pulled me right in from the first minute. Helps clear up all the confusion surround the "best" way to eat if you are an endurance athlete...and if you're not.

What does Vinnie Tortorich bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

His stories from his personal experiences had me laughing out loud while I was listening during my run. I could relate to many of his opinions and perspectives. Vinnie comes across as sincere; that he has a message to share.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, but I listened in two long runs instead!

Any additional comments?

Since I listened to this audiobook, I am now a loyal listener of his podcasts.

Eye opening book

Would you consider the audio edition of Fitness Confidential to be better than the print version?

Yes, because it has extras on the Audiobook

What about Vinnie Tortorich’s performance did you like?

He is very honest about everything, and he does not promise you anything like you can loose so much weight in a month. But he tells you so you can understand how our bodies work.

Any additional comments?

I had to listen to this several times because it is a very good book. Thanks Vinnie.

Excellent Audiobook

If you could sum up Fitness Confidential in three words, what would they be?

I thoroughly enjoyed this audio book and have to say, this is how they should be done. Vinnie doesn’t do it like everyone else, he gives you bonus material which he calls “Lagniappe” to give his reader a little extra. I found myself eager for each new chapter and at times just couldn’t stop listening. I felt much more motivated and excited about making life changes after this book than I have from other prescriptive books, which focus on a lot of rules and instructions of what to do. Vinnie doesn’t do it that way.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Fitness Confidential?

I was hooked on the bonus chapter of his experience doing a 508 mile bike race.

Have you listened to any of Vinnie Tortorich’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I didn't know who Vinnie was before I listened to this audio book. Now I'm a fan.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I really appreciated the frank talk about what works and what doesn't work. He lays it out that there are no short cuts or lose weight fat schemes. It takes hard work and commitment.

Any additional comments?

I believe the audio book version is better than the print book because he breaks from the reading with additional material and his narration style feels so natural and real. Highly recommended.
