Not much difference...

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Yes, unfortunately there really isnt much difference between this book and all other books that scream that one should eat clean and organic because the body can't tolerate gluten and processed food and those food with high additives. Its very interesting yet not something that I havent already heard.

What other book might you compare Clean - Expanded Edition to and why?

The Fast Metabolism Diet

Not based on science or evidence

This started off as a very interesting book but soon started to making claims about human Physiology and toxins that remained unsubstantiated through the book. I've tried doing my own research on cleansing diets, functional medicine and other aspects like mucoid plaques, supplementation, leaky gut syndrome, acidity in the body, toxins and general science based health and nutrition and have found no support for the claims made in this book.

There is some science in there, I admit, and there are real world descriptions in there that make all this sound plausible and even tempting to attempt. But please be aware that colonics can be dangerous, and most of the advice given in this book is completely unsubstantiated and is derived from a lot of the detox pseudoscience that's already out there. Try this at your own risk and be careful. I would just recommend you eat your veggies and exercise regularly to get similar results. At least that has a lot of grounding in reality, unlike this book.

Detox made easy!

The author does a great job of explaining a very complex topic. Even if you don't adopt his program, you will learn a lot about how to improve your health.

Good listen while I walk

What did you love best about Clean - Expanded Edition?

Whether one is ready to undertake the 3-week clean, Alejandro Junger gives a detailed description of why he decided to learn about nutrition and its effects on disease. He is compelling to take the 3-week clean and make it part of an annual habit. I was very satisfied with his message, narration, and explanations of each topic.

Would you be willing to try another book from Alejandro Junger? Why or why not?

yes

What about Alejandro Junger’s performance did you like?

He has a lovely accent and clear english way.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The overall message about disease and how we forget to learn that in med school.

Any additional comments?

I am insisting that my 75-year old father reads this!

I didn't like it

Let me preface my disdain for this book with: I exercise regularly, try to get 8 hours sleep, eat fairly healthy and don't overeat, I'm 40 years old and weigh about 15 pounds more then I did my senior high school when I wrestled varsity. This book irked me. It goes over a million things one needs to do to detox without iterating a concrete prioritized plan. It felt like semi emotional rambling on things one could do and leaves the reader confused on the most important things to do. Moreover the authors opinions seem to come from things he read about rather than tried to do himself. For example, he says to take as hot showers possible then as cold as possible, alternating this a few time. If you've ever tried this in a Colorado winter you know this is extremely hard to do. I am about 90% done with this book scratching my head as to what I should do because there was just so much things thrown out in this book. By the way, the author self admitdly was extremely out of shape and overweight when he started detoxing so take that for what it's worth ...if you are ready in good shape this book may seem overkill or confusing for your goals.

Great information

I downloaded this audio book after my friend followed the clean program for three weeks and she highly recommended it. I'm enjoying the information and look forward to starting this program in the next couple of weeks.

Great book

I enjoyed reading the book. I read the book while listening to the audible book. I am impressed with the breadth and depth of Dr. Junger's knowledge of the subject. I was a little put off by the promoting he was doing about the program and the products he sells throughout the book. I really would prefer to read the study separately from the promotional materials. I really believe in clean. I don't have to be beat over the head to do it.

Eye opener

I'm glad I got the audiobook version since I don't really have much time to sit still. Though I don't really have much health issues, I'm always on a look out for how to keep my body in top shape since an aunt (mother side) is a breast cancer survivor & an uncle (father side, God bless his soul),got lung cancer.
This book is very informative, an eye opener on how my body is asking for help whenever I feel something & how I can help it cope, which is through detoxification. Thanks Dr. Junger for your gift of helping us cope with health issues & regain health. 😎

Compelling story and program.

As a physician not in functional medicine, I can respect the way Dr. Junger came at this. Trained in internal medicine with a cardiology fellowship, while also having a unique exposure to collaborative “Eastern” medicine while abroad.

His suggestions for the clean diet are sound for feeling better.

I quibble and at times rolled my eyes with what I think are overreaches for claims about the biochemical underpinning or even successes but this did not interfere with my respect for the fundamental idea of stop putting s**t in your body. The program is thoughtful and easy to follow. I certainly feel better having tried it.
