Publisher's summary

Stranded, Loham Babar has spent the last 15 months living amongst humans.

During the day, he’s a South Chicago high school janitor, slopping a mop around from nine o’clock to three o’clock, five days a week. At night, hiding out in an old boarded-up factory, he attends to his damaged interstellar spacecraft, making repairs and counting the days until he can return to his homeworld of Calunoth. All he needs to do is mind his own business and avoid any messy human dramas for just a few more weeks.

But it is on one of those quiet nights when he hears them outside: the MP140s. Named for a police radio code for murder, these bangers are among the worst, most ruthless killers in the entire city. Peering down from the third floor window, Babar recognizes the quiet hermit boy below him, the one with the ugly facial scars, walking into a death trap. Little does Babar realize at the time that this scared, complicated, seventeen-year-old will be the key to saving the distant Realm of Dom Dynasty.

Good story!

This was enjoyable listen. The storyline and characters were good for single book. Fred was great as always. Would like to see the story continue.

Strong start...

but as the story progresses, things feel more and more rushed, characters start to feel internally inconsistent and the story is written in a way comes across as an attempt to be bold while being pretty shallow. Some great ideas in there, but it feels as if though the author had an overarching story premeditated. Characters feel like they could grow and have personality that would drive the story but are reeled back in line to suit the plot instead.

Humans?

I feel the author here has done a great job again with his work. The characters are unique they are down to earth as we must say and they are put into situations that show how we as people can overcome our own short comings.

Nothing Special

The main plot arc isn't anything all that original or intriguing. As other reviews have noted, the first half of the book gets pretty bleak. I assumed this to be somewhat of a build up/set up for some bleak/exceptional actions/decisions in response by the MC, but no, it's just there.

The interpersonal relationships are both stunted and immature. What exploration there is of the underlying politics, tech, or histories of the universe are bland surface skims.

It's not a bad story, persay, I personally just don't care about any of the characters, the universe, or really anything regarding the story after 10hrs. It's meh.

depressing as hell

first the book is well written and not too bad of a story just the way its written is depressing AF i only made it about half way through but the mc just gets shit piled on 1 after another for no reason other then to make the bad guy as unlikeable as possible just seems unnecessary and depressing to me

Excellent space opera.

No magic bullets to bail out the hero's and Heroines situations. Social problems abound, evil empire, etcetera.
With the narration of Fred Berman, really quite believable characters, a wide vocal range, and ditto with dialects.

Wonderful narration

The narrator was able to bring each character to life as a distinct individual, although I couldn't help but picture Justin as being played by Fry of Futurama.
The story twisted and turned as the characters were placed in one seemingly hopless fix after another. The listener could easily be invested in each characters fate, and wonder how they could possibly win the day.
But you'll have to listen to see if their plan comes to fruition.
Highly recommend.
