Publisher's summary

Georgie is back and hanging the stockings with care when a murder interrupts her Christmas cheer in this all-new installment in the New York Times best-selling Royal Spyness series from Rhys Bowen.

Georgie is excited for her first Christmas as a married woman in her lovely new home. She suggests to her dashing husband, Darcy, that they have a little house party, but when Darcy receives a letter from his aunt Ermintrude, there is an abrupt change in plans. She has moved to a house on the edge of the Sandringham estate, near the royal family, and wants to invite Darcy and his new bride for Christmas. Aunt Ermintrude hints that the queen would like Georgie nearby. Georgie had not known that Aunt Ermintrude was a former lady-in-waiting and close confidante of her royal highness. The letter is therefore almost a royal request, so Georgie, Darcy, and their Christmas guests, Mummy, Grandad, Fig, and Binky, all head to Sandringham.

Georgie soon learns that the notorious Mrs. Simpson, mistress to the prince of Wales, will also be in attendance. It is now crystal clear to Georgie that the queen expects her to do a bit of spying. There is tension in the air from the get-go, and when Georgie pays a visit to the queen, she learns that there is more to her request than just some simple eavesdropping. There have been a couple of strange accidents at the estate recently. Two gentlemen of the royal household have died in mysterious circumstances, and another has been shot by mistake during a hunt. Georgie begins to suspect that a member of the royal family is the real target, but her investigation will put her new husband and love of her life, Darcy, in the crosshairs of a killer.

Poor narration when the main character speaks.

I like the general narrative ok, but when she speaks as Georgiana she pauses between to many words. It morphs into sounding robotic. This is at 1.3 speed to boot. It’s like having a comma after every work in a sentence. I wish they would re-record them.

Another great Royal Spyness!

Love this series - one of my favorites!! Great story and twists!

Was a bit put off by the narrator initially… I believe in the last couple of books, she follow our beloved Katherine Kellgren’s speech patterns. For me, there was a noticeable change with Georgie this time.

Another delight

This series is always worth the read. Likable characters, interesting plots. The ideal cozy mystery.

I am ready, however, for Georgie to stop being so insecure. It’s grating. Thus young woman has proven her metal multiple times, and yet, She remains unsure of herself. A real turn off.

Wonderful plot, not loving narrator

Very atmospheric; will be gifting it to friends who enjoy a Christmas cozy for the season. But just not enjoying this narrator.

Another wonderful addition to the series.

Very enjoyable Christmas cosy mystery. Great comedy and a very unlikely (or not) murderer. Loved seeing Darcy and Georgie working together. And a little surprise at the end. Really well narrated.

Another good story

I love Georgie and Darcy. This is a fun book since they are together for the entire story. I still miss Katherine Kellgren as narrator, but Jasmine is growing on me. If you are a Spyness fan, I recommend...if you are just a fan of sweet Christmas romance (with a bit of cosy murder) then also I recommend. I hope Ms. Bowen keeps them coming!!

Great stories, wonderful narration

I read all of Rhys Bowen's books that I can find. I love her writing style, her characters and her gift for developing mysteries. Jasmine Blackborow is fabulous as the narrator! Her "voices" go well with the characters, and I can tell who is speaking the moment she begins a speech. I hope that there will be more in the Her Spyness. Series

Delightful as always

This series has slowly surpassed Mrs Polifax as my favorite series with an amateur detective/spy. I love the historical tidbits that Rhys includes at the end to let us know which parts are factually based.
