Publisher's summary

Country music icon, army veteran, father, outdoorsman—Craig Morgan shares all aspects of his life, revealing stories even his most avid fans don’t know.

Written with Jim DeFelice, author of the #1 New York Times bestseller American Sniper

In 1989, as US news outlets declared an end to Operation Just Cause, Craig Morgan was part of an elite group of military operatives jumping into the jungle along the Panamanian border on a covert operation. Fans know the country music star from his hit songs and acclaimed albums, but there’s a lot more to him—a soldier who worked with the CIA in Panama, an undercover agent who fought sex traffickers in Thailand, and a dedicated family man who lives the values he sings.

Craig details these many facets of his life and more in God, Family, Country. An on-stage appearance with his father’s band at age ten may have planted the seeds for life as a country star, but first he trained as a paratrooper in the army. After earning numerous distinctions, his path to sergeant major was all but assured. Then came a momentous decision: he left the active military to pursue music.

With unwavering support from his wife and a pack of part-time jobs, he toughed out the lean years and achieved his first success with the poignant ballad “Almost Home.” Other hits soon followed, from party songs like “Redneck Yacht Club” to the soul-rending “The Father, My Son, and the Holy Ghost.” Born from the anguish of his son Jerry’s passing, the song’s tribute has consoled and inspired millions across the world.

Duty to country has been a constant throughout his life and globe-spanning career. In 2006, as “That’s What I Love about Sunday” topped country radio charts, Craig was riding in a convoy of Humvees in Iraq. An avid outdoorsman, a former sheriff’s deputy who’s still a member of the auxiliary, and always a husband and father first, Craig Morgan will inspire you with his life lived by the deepest values: God, family, country.

Very impressive story

Thank you for your service, Craig.

I enjoyed the book. It’s exciting, heartbreaking, joyful and filled with great advice. Loved how you gave credit to Karen for all she’s done and continues to do.

Great book!

I enjoyed listening to the audio version of this book. I always find it interesting to learn about someone’s life. However I did find it confusing when Craig read the inserts for other people, such as his wife. It was hard to decider when their insert was finished and he resumed his own story, since it was all done in his voice. Otherwise it was a great book that kept me enchanted the whole time.

Great listen very enjoyable for the reader

great message and story read by morgan made it relatable and real to listen to for the reader very much enjoyed Mr. Morgan explaining his routes his military adventures and ethic Hardwork honesty all the things that make America great and his faith he explained without proselytizing or criticizing anyone how his faith helped him through difficult times and gave him vision for what needed to be done also enjoyed hearing his honest portrayal of family life and the challenges that face I’m sure it was much more difficult than what he said but when you play it back he made some great choices very smart businessman but he always kept his family at the center of what was good for them
explaining his faith and what got him through the loss of his son and challenges keeping things in perspective is very well done I especially applaud how he honored his wife and the sacrifices and Hardwork she had behind the scenes to raise her family and be supportive while he pursued his dreams also the realness of the book is real relatable I’m sure it helps others with loss of a loved one or just disappointment when family relationships don’t go as you hoped they would take in the long run take it to Longview Craig Morgan is a great songwriter a great artist but a even better human being very talented man a great read worth the time to listen I did speed up the read rate to an hour and a or 1.5 simply because he speaks slower and I needed to get through the book as I was on a long trip and wanted to finish it but having him do the voice really was excellent he did a great job good inflection on his portrayal of what occurred in his life

I love this man!

I so enjoyed this. Craig's love of God, family, and country is so refreshing. His unashamed want and love to serve his country is so honorable. But, that voice ( when he sings) and the songs have made me a life time fan from the very beginning. Maybe, it's not the best narration that I have ever heard, but it is from his heart and think he's a wonderful human being.

I'm not one for writing reviews....

I am usually not one for writing reviews, but this is an amazing book written and told by an incredible man! I loved every part of the book, and the fact I heard it from the very man that lived it made it all the better. I thought I knew a bit about Craig Morgan when I started listening, but the book takes you through the incredible journey he took from one of the Army's elite soldiers to a country star and everything in between. I would recommend to anyone.
