Publisher's summary

One life-changing summer on Nantucket brings about exhilarating revelations for a single mother and her two grown children in this sensational novel from New York Times bestselling author Nancy Thayer.

Lisa Hawley is perfectly satisfied living on her own. Having fully recovered from a brutal divorce nearly two decades earlier, she has successfully raised her kids, Juliet and Theo, seeing them off to college and beyond. As the owner of a popular boutique on Nantucket, she’s built a fulfilling life for herself on the island where she grew up. With her beloved house in desperate need of repair, Lisa calls on Mack Whitney, a friendly - and very handsome - local contractor and fellow single parent, to do the work. The two begin to grow close, and Lisa is stunned to realize that she might be willing to open up again after all...despite the fact that Mack is ten years her junior.

Juliet and Theo worry that Mack will only break their mother’s heart - and they can’t bear to see her hurt again. Both stuck in ruts of their own, they each hope that a summer on Nantucket will provide them with the clarity they’ve been searching for. When handsome entrepreneur Ryder Hastings moves to the island to expand his environmental nonprofit, Juliet, an MIT-educated web designer, feels an immediate attraction, one her rocky love life history pushes her to deny at first. Meanwhile, free spirit Theo finds his California bliss comes to a brutal halt when a surfing injury forces him back to the East Coast. Upon his return, he has eyes only for Mack’s daughter, Beth, to whom he is bound by an unspeakable tragedy from high school. Can they overcome their past?

As the season unfolds, a storm threatens to shatter the peace of the golden island, forcing Lisa, Juliet, and Theo to decide whether their summer romances are destined for something more profound. Nancy Thayer dazzles again in this delightful tale of family, a reminder that sometimes, finding our way back home can bring us unexpected gifts.

Good story but missing some important details. Distracted by readers make impersonations, sounded too harsh

Story better than audio

This story would have been more enjoyable for me if the audio had not been so stilted and monotonous. The story had some interesting dynamics set in a beautiful part of the country, but the instalove was not at all believable. Who meets a person and asks them to basically marry you after one date... nobody. The most realistic part of the book was the past high school romance.

Not her best!

I’m a big Nancy Thayer fan but I have to say. This fell short of what I was expecting. It perhaps could have been then awful narration. She sounded like a robot. Very mechanical and unnatural speech. Her impressions of the male voice was better than the women. While a decent story, my advice is take it or leave it.

Old Town Charm

I loved this book! It's an old fashioned story. The characters in the book are so real, I feel like I know them.

I was happy when it was over

I am not really a fan of this book. The characters were not relatable. The story was far to unrealistic for my taste. The setting was nice and the author did a good job of describing things so you can easily picture it but not over describing so it drags on. I do think it was performed really well. All in all I have to say I wouldn't recommend this book to a friend. I was happy when it was over and a bit sad I spent the money on it.

Cute story.

Great story but there are no ‘Girls of Summer’??? Kinda bizarre. At no point in the story are there are a group of girls that do anything in the summer. Title makes no sense but a great story anyway!

Ugh.....

Nancy and I are now officially divorced.
This is the third book of hers I've tried and I haven't enjoyed any of them.
The love scenes in this book were just uncomfortable for me. If a man said any of the things to me that these men in this book said, I'd run as fast as I could.

Narration:
I'm not a huge KR fan so that probably didn't help matters at all.

Good Beach Summer Read

This story was a quick beach summer read.

It didnt require any deep thought. or it wasn't thought provoking.

over all I like the story for that reason. Sometimes you want to read a story that is light and fun. Nothing toooo deep.
And this story was it.

The characters were all immature for their ages which got on my nerves but I guess you had to have some drama somewhere. Because other than that there werent any drama or conflict.

I am a sucker for happy endings and this did not disappoint. The ending was to neatly wrapped together but hey it was a easy beach summer read.

So over all I love this story and would read it again just in case I missed something.

Enjoyable

I liked this story with the little tidbits of Island life. I did want to ‘snack’ the main character a few times due to her lack of gumption
But it all turned out when she ‘found’ herself
