Publisher's summary

Furious Heaven is the action-packed sequel to bestselling author Kate Elliott's thrilling space adventure The Unconquerable Sun, a genderspun Alexander the Great

The Republic of Chaonia fleets, under the joint command of Princess Sun and her formidable mother, Queen-Marshal Eirene, have defeated and driven out an invading fleet of the Phene Empire, though not without heavy losses. But the Empire remains undeterred. While Chaonia scrambles to rebuild its military, the Empire’s rulers are determined to squash Chaonia once and for all. They believe their military might is strong enough to defeat the enemy, but they also secure a secret alliance with a deadly religious sect skilled in the use of assassination and covert ops, to destabilize the republic.

On the eve of Eirene’s bold attack on the rich and populous Karnos System, an unexpected tragedy strikes the republic. Sun must take charge or lose the throne. Will Sun be content with the pragmatic path laid out by her mother for Chaonia’s future? Or will she choose to forge her own legend? Can she succeed despite all the forces arrayed against her?

Epic Space Adventure!

“Furious Heaven (The Sun Chronicles #2)” is a well developed work of military science fiction blended with space opera. The world building is intricate and far-reaching, but it’s also a high energy adventure. The first book, “Unconquerable Sun” sets the foundation so you need to start there, but “Furious Heaven” is a terrific installment in the trilogy. The series is a gender swapped Alexander the Great in space where all of the important characters are strong and powerful queer women. Both books are full of kickass women in space.

These books really spotlight Natalie Naudus’s narrative skills. She is so good at creating distinct voices and The Sun Chronicles have such an incredibly large cast which she manages effortlessly. Not many voice actors could handle this many characters without confusing the listener.

I loved it!

full of action and a few big surprises

Just as volume 1 did, the story runs back and forth between the POV of both the main characters and occasionally some minor ones. A huge turn of events leads to galaxy spanning battles.

Some story lines are clearly over and completed, but several leave us waiting for the next book in the series. I'm especially interested in Persephone and how her life changes through the series.

I never learn to wait until a series is complete before I start in. Now, the long wait for book 3 begins.

just as good as book 1

Loved this one just as much as the first. although there are many characters and it can be hard to remember who is who. it will definitely be worth a relisten. I like how the narrator switches between Sun and Persephone and several other characters. the narration is well done and I didn't have any issues distinguishing who was talking.

I like the balance of action and the emotional lives of the characters. you get an in depth look into internal feelings and thoughts. the world building is really well done, part of the story and revealed in small pieces throughout. I really hope there is another book that explores this universe more.

Unconquerable story!

Even better than the first book. Elliot is a fantastic writer who has created an amazing story line with fascinating characters. Natalie Naudus does an excellent job as narrator. They make this complex and enthralling story an easy listen.
