Publisher's summary

A blazingly original and stylish debut novel about a young man whose reality unravels when he suspects his mysterious employers have inadvertently discovered time travel—and are using it to cover up a string of violent crimes . . .

Four days before Christmas, eight-year-old Bo loses his mother in a tragic accident, twenty-eight-year-old Brandon loses his job after a hostile takeover of his big-media employer, and forty-eight-year-old Blue, a key witness in a criminal trial against an infamous now-defunct tech startup, struggles to reconnect with his family.

So begins Jinwoo Chong's dazzling time-bending debut that blends elements of neo-noir and speculative fiction as the lives of Bo, Brandon, and Blue begin to intersect, uncovering a network of secrets and an experimental technology that threatens to upend life itself. Intertwined with them is the saga of an iconic '80s detective show, Raider, whose star actor has imploded spectacularly after revelations of long-term concealed abuse.

Flux is a haunting and sometimes shocking exploration of the cyclical nature of grief, of moving past trauma, and of the pervasive nature of whiteness within the development of Asian identity in America.

Mind blowing

It’s hard to follow at 1st when you’re trying hard to connect the dots in this interesting story but once you pay attention to the Groundhog’s Day a few times you see what’s going on and then it’s a wild ride to see how it ends and I didn’t expect this ending and I usually guess it correctly but not this time,so kudos to Mr.Chong

Some cool ideas, but confusing

A sci-fi take on start-up AND cancel culture, celebrity, ethnicity and identity, with a lot of the same "time and memory" stuff other books have done better before. I'm not sure quite how the twist is supposed to work, or the relation the Presidential candidate and his father, the actor, have to the main story.

Time rompin' sci-fi mystery

Don't usually review, but this title needs more! Loved my time with this book. It definitely requires your attention, especially out of the gate. Once everyone is introduced and the story starts tumbling forward I couldn't put it down. These characters and places will stick with me for a long time.

Excellent read!

Very engaging debut novel from Jinwoo Chong. Was hard to stop listening too. Would definitely recommend.

Too hard to follow

Many characters introduced without providing sufficient contact or relevance, tired with character interactions that don’t seem realistic or memorable. Descriptions are at times beautiful but then I get lost by its relevance to the ongoing storyline.

Incredibly confusing

I couldn’t follow the plot. Although it all comes together in the end (kind of), I spent most of the time thinking to myself « I have no idea what’s going on. » I stuck it out to the end hoping for a satisfying resolution, but it never came. Not worth it.
