Publisher's summary

Jesus was Jewish, and his Jewish identity informed every aspect of his work, words, and witness. He came as the Messiah of Israel, God's covenant people, and he spoke the language of God's faithfulness to this people. So why does it seem that Judaism has little to do with our Christian discipleship today?

Jennifer Rosner, a scholar of Jewish-Christian relations, takes us on a personal and corporate journey into the Jewish roots of Christian faith and practice. Understanding Judaism—and the way in which Judaism and Christianity became separate religions—is essential for a rich and holistic Christian identity. As a follower of Jesus who was raised in a Jewish home and who continues to live a Jewish life, Rosner has seen firsthand how a Christian faith can become impoverished when divorced from its Jewish roots. Finding Messiah follows Rosner's own journey in rediscovering the role of Judaism and God's covenant with Israel in Christian life and practice. When we begin to understand Christianity's indelible relationship to Judaism, key aspects of the Christian faith come alive and the wonder of the gospel becomes clear in new and powerful ways.

Jesus' Judaism provides the foundation for the church that is built upon his name. Rediscover the Jewish Jesus, and in so doing, experience a deeper and richer faith than ever before.

Wonderful!!

Since an engaging and faith enriching book that both educates and challenges the reader to consider the complexity of relationship between Judaism and Christianity, while at the same time making it more than just a boring theological discussion. Rosner also a delivers and engaging personal story that draws the reader along into the story. I really loved this book!!

Blend of autobiography and theology

The author does a fantastic job of telling her life’s story in combination with explaining theological concepts. She details her identity journey and how it was a driving force for much of her life.
She is vulnerable and optimistic, she is inspiring and I found myself crying several times while listening to this book as there were many points of relation between her struggles and my own.

A little on the academic side

This is well worth reading if you are a serious Bible student. Or if you love Israel and the Jewish people and need to frame that inside a Christian worldview. Be aware that the author is a seminary professor. Some of this is a little tough to wade through. I’m glad I did.

Stand Tall — insight so precious to know

After reading Finding Messiah I know more about the golden thread of Jesus as a Jew connecting the insight to Christ as my Messiah. So grateful for the ease of explanation as the author weaved her journey with the depth of being with God. Amazing it is, God’s redemption for all who believe in Him.

Expertly clarified

This book is a treasure for our current time. With patience and expertise, this book brings to the table this keen and indelible base of the Christian faith and how it is oft overlooked and misunderstood. Woven into the treatise is her personal story, making this both a book of substance and an enjoyable book to read. I plan to read it again soon, as she presented many new facets to biblical passages that I want to hear again.
